Bats may look weird, but they are extremely useful in every ecosystem they are a part of.

I think each and every one of these bats are adorable, actually... Some in a traditional way due to their cuteness, and others in the "so ugly it's cute" way, like baby birds and pugs.

Here in San Antonio and Austin are some of the largest bat colonies in the world. There is a Starbucks right next to an underpass and every twilight the bats pour out in huge swirling clouds. We are so lucky to live close to it, since they descend on the insects in our yard all night and take out billions of mosquitos. I had them accidently fly onto my shoulder or over my hair, but they squeak and flap off...
Staying calm when they land on you is important, since they don't want to interact with humans. Unfortunately, there is a huge problem in Texas of animals carrying rabies. Anyone who sees a bat on the ground during the day, even if it dead, should not touch it, and call the authorities. There have been a couple of cases of rabies infection from guano dust, so it's always best to let them be.

I would love more bats in our area to take care of mosquitoes and other parasitical pests. My older sister loves living near a bat nest as they never seem to have a mosquito problem.

I wouldn't call them scary maybe kinda creepy but more so their extremely helpful in all their region. If we bred more insectivore bats and amphibian's the use of pesticides every summer would drop by $10, 000, 000 per year per city

This would have been much better if you had mentioned how valuable bats are as pollinators and in controlling insects. Austin Texas figures that their now famous bat population eats 30, 000 pounds of bugs. The only reason anyone would be afraid of bats is because they just don't know any better.

+TopTenz, was going to yell at you for your poor choice of title but after learning a few things that I didn't know before and seeing all of the positive comments I decided against it. Poor things are having a rough enough time without having humans chase them down like the villagers in Frankenstein. This video should be mandatory viewing for Australians, for some reason many of them have a real hate-on for bats. Gave you a thumbs up, wish I could give you more.
