I've listened to this song for years without really understanding the references until last night (St. Brigid's Eve) when, in a poem called The Heavenly Banquet attributed to St. Brigid, I came across a reference to the "lake of beer."  Slowly but surely the synapses began to fire and light crept in on the darkness.  To Kevin and the world: Sláinte!

Vintage Kevin. Too funny. This is priceless! Way to go, brother! Gotta admit that I find the quotation from the saint a tad opaque, but perhaps my brain needs some "lubrication" (nudge-nudge he said knowingly...) to better understand. Gotta love those Catholic mystics, eh what?!
