don’t worry about it, I’m indian singaporean. bcs we are basically the minority among the indian population in sg, I have had so many people ask me if I’m singaporean, including people I know, it’s incredibly common lol.

The Singaporean government is among the few that have diligently worked to ensure that all its citizens have a strong sense of national belonging, regardless of their race.

My China colleague thought I was Malaysian just because I am Malay (and all Malays are Malaysians). And she thought the Malaysian Chinese guy was Singaporean. Best part, she got her citizenship for years.

I went to London for a week with my colleague. For context, I am a Singaporean Malay and he is a Malaysian Chinese. We sure threw some Londoners into a loop when we explained that I'm not from Malaysia but he is, and that thankfully none of us are from China 😅 Don't want that Chinese tourist from hell vibes.

It's sad Malays and Indians are more prone to this than the Chinese

The Singlish is the giveaway. If not, it's the propensity to mix and match languages when conversing.
