There is no way chess is Haram. Unless you gamble with it. But even that is a stretch. Because gambling requires an element of luck. Chess involves absolutely no luck. It really is better described as a sport rather than a game. An argument could even be made for chess being a science.

But let me ask, is taking part in say a soccer/football tournament with a cash prize Haram? That is not considered gambling. Right? So why would playing chess for money be considered gambling?
