What is Discrimination?

I was overweight when I was young and made fun of frequently as well as being ignored by other kids when I was younger. I frequently read biographies and learn that many change their behaviors to loose weight and become more athletic when they are young because of being teased and treated differently. They wanted to be "normal" and apparently were sufficiently socially aware that they could change their behavior in the direction of being accepted by peers. I was asked to work with a "team" of "young" Blacks who I would classify primarily as athletes a few years ago. Basically I'd say any of them might have been on the cover of Sports Illustrated had their athletic ability in Basketball or Track or Football or Baseball been up to an Olympic or professional standard. Truth is, I suspect many if not all on this team had been photographed in their younger days performing as athletes. Quite honestly, I've probably spent 20 years studying sports and athletics because I decided for myself several years ago I was tired of being rejected and I wanted to change. Didn't help much, unfortunately, in my case but I'd say that probably all of these young males would be perfectly happy if their sons grew up to be professional athletes and make big money in some sport. That seems to be a cultural attitude. Can we blame an all White Farm Community if it does not, for example, elect a Black Councilman or a Hispanic Mayor? Majority rules and is this discrimination? Can we blame them if they elect the most successful candidate among them believing that success begets success and a successful Mayor might be good for a Community? I've worked with Blacks and given my own lack of physical ability... put it this way, I never felt as if I were discriminated against because I studied a lot of Math and Statistics and Economics in College but was asked to work around this all-Black team. I guess I simply don't complain much. But I would also ask another question, are religious beliefs that have a class system discrimination. Is it discrimination to force people into a caste or class and then prevent people from one caste from working in a field designed for another caste? The whole issue becomes complex and complicated because all of us have different experiences and - quite honestly - different levels of success. And isn't that the way our world sort of works?

I think discrimination is just apart of life. People just need to grow a spine and move on. If you have enough evidence, sue.
