Secret: they don’t want inflation to decrease, they want more of it so that they inflate away the debt, making it easy to pay off. If they really lowered inflation and had high interest rates, the options are 1) to take funds out of the system to service the much higher interest and result in a recession/depression or 2) default on the debt
