This really helped a lot. I bought a pre-built older pc for my son's first PC, and the sucker only has one fan. We have the case sitting on its side, and the fan is pulling air from the HDD and just pooling at the back.
Oddly enough, when the pc is lying flat, the fan is on the right side of the case but dead center. I think I can get away with putting a small desk fan in front of the HDD (which is at the lower edge when sideways) and the "rear" fan will do its job better.

I only have a single fan, like the first one you installed. So, the wires/spokes point outward, like the one I mentioned that you first installed? I forgot to pay attention, or photograph it, before I took it out to clean it.
