Financial Education in school should be a requirement

We had a financial education class, but all it really did was teach us to sign checks. I learned more about being smart with my money and how to save it well from my senior English teacher. Love you Mrs. Plumb

This is one reason that I’m thankful my school system took a different approach to the curriculum. Part of your graduation checklist required you to take a finance class to learn about these more advanced topics

And yet, when my school provides this class, people still don't pay attention because they're lazy...

Money management sorta gets learned in Canada with the requirement of CALM (career and life management), but besides that you’re basically on your own.

I'm currently in a personal finance class in high school, it's been super helpful and I wish more schools taught it!

My history teacher was the ONLY one who actually talked on how we can save our money, he explained taxes to us too. He even told us that he won't teach us the stuff that the school wants him to teach us. I'm very glad that I have a teacher like him, he really taught us how we can save our money and stuff like that.

My school’s financial class was online, and every single assignment was taught in a “don’t be poor” kind of way. Like assignments would be “pick the car insurance for you, ” and if you picked a cheaper affordable option it would say “Wrong Choice! Pick the $1, 500 option next time.”

"Save for a rainy day" "don't spend more than you earn" Over half of us wish we had that luxury.

Taxes were explained to me at school and finance and our dad often gives advice on what to invest in, but i mean my dad was the finance manager of the church we went to and stuff like that so im probably just lucky

My school actually has a required personal finance class, and a lot of other schools in my area do too. From what I’ve heard though they don’t teach you anything

All They Said in school Was:

Taxes Are 7.84% of the price at the store.
Compound gives you more money overtime.
Investing is a good idea but you have to choose wisely.
Only spend 1/4 or less of your earnings And put the rest in savings.

I swear, school hasnt gotten an update since 1293. I just watched a bunch of finance videos and it worked pretty well.

They're actually starting to do this in school now, last year at the end of the year we learned about resumes, applications for jobs, taxes, credit cards, seems like we're actually going in a right direction!
