In this episode of the Prescription Press, Dr. Nolan Fisher discusses the impact of AI on healthcare, focusing on the use of ChatGPT. He explains that AI will change the way physicians deliver healthcare, and that patients and clinicians will soon experience its positive effects. Fisher talks about his personal experience as a physician dealing with the administrative burden of clinical documentation and notes that ChatGPT can be used to make this process less burdensome. He provides an example of how he used ChatGPT to summarize a news story and realized its potential for clinical documentation.

Yes, this is what I saw happen around me in 40 years of working in the medical community! Doctors have ended up practicing electronic medical records as opposed to practicing medical care for their patients. I've been through the process of watching the having to spend so much time fitting patient care into what the system wanted . UGLY!

I dont think patients will like the idea of their personal medical information being used by big data companies (such as chatGPT). Every request you do will in some way or another be saved and processed by these AI algo's.

I worked at a company that used the Dragon software to transcribe voice calls for the hearing impaired by an agent lstening to the call and using the software to turn their speech to text. It took thousands of hours of training the software to recognize a single agents speech patterns in order to get it to work and even then certain words would consistently be problematic due to the nuances of the English language.

Given the variations in language, accents, regional dialects speech impairments, etc that can exist with a conversation between a doctor and a patient, I'm not sure of how helpful this software will be. Proofreading a long exchange may be more time consuming than just creating a consice note. I'm curious to see how well this works after it's been used for some time. Thanks for the interesting video doc.

The positives: I think ChatGPT/AI note taking that is becoming available has the potential to be a positive game changer for Doctors and other medical practitioners. Especially for the doctors who sit with their back turned typing madly into a computer, ticking off pre-prepared checklists, and not engaging face-to-face with their patients. Yep, Chat GPT or similar will be marvelous. BUT The negatives: If, as you suggest, AI systems will "listen in" and collate a conversation into a set of notes, I personally will not be disclosing to my doctor things that I probably should/would discuss or ask about. and that would normally be in confidence, and not included in detail in clinical notes. I am very concerned that opinions I may express, concerns I may raise, or personal details I may wish to discuss that may not normally become part of the precis of notes, will now become part of the details of AI generated clinical notes not filtered through wisdom, discretion and confidentiality. While you may counter that the doctor will have the capacity to change settings/filters, use discretion about using AI, etc, there are factors that will influence this, including time pressures on Doctors; growing reliance on/trust of the technology that may lead to complacency; and increasing pressure on doctors by (employers, hospital administration, governments) to use and rely on the technology. The benefits of using AI technology can only be realised if the drawbacks are adequately recognised and addressed. (Sorry for the huge comment)

I’m sick of today’s medical business. Actually I hate it because it feels like they’re just using me to make money for themselves.

Your own personal doctor people on call 24/7. Who will now you better than your parents who will know your family better than you . The AI will diagnose you as you open your mouth or by looking at you ! .

Every Dr I have seen either has an assistant entering the medical record or the Dr reviews and enters new data.
Drs do not deal with coding and billing.
You seem really ignorant to the midern medical climate.

Nope. That is all. What could go wrong with a listening device picking up your personal info. If the job is too clerical maybe become a pe teacher.
