Use nutserts straight into the guard a bit of threaded rod and loctite so the threaded rod doesn’t rattle loose then drill a hole for the pins... means you don’t have to worry about losing the bolts when removing the mudflaps

Feel a little bad that my first ever comment was "constructive criticism" so I will add, that I absolutely love your videos, so refreshing and informative, so real and fairdinkum, and at times very funny, cause I'm so over the commercial crap, with their mock drama that so insults my intelligence. Keep up the great work, awesome video work, not long discovered your channel and have been binge watching it ever since.

Beautiful engineering. Simple, yet functional. Two (2) suggestions, 1. Use a nut to keep the bolt in place permanently so it does not move and elongate the bolt hole. 2. Attached a small piece of string to the clips to make removal easier.

That was a great tip on the mud flap front lost a shit load over the years, driving 4x4s for 45 years, cheers

My 2 cents. Drilling through steel - low speed, pressure and lubricant. The titanium nitride bits will last longer than black oxide. You should see shavings, not powder.

Thanks for offering something that's not expensive. Always good to save money, especially since covid19 has taken so many jobs off us recently. Cheers

Not sure if it's an Aussie thing but here in the states when we refer to hardware sizes, the X is read as "by" not "times" as in multiplication. For example a 6mm X 2mm would be read as six by 2 millimeter.

One thing I did with the clips on my trailer is I tied them together with cord or put a cord on the end so I have something better to grip on and less change of losing them. Cord pull on individual clips and pins and tied together in a daisy chain fashion on multiple clips. If the setup allows, I tie the clips to the pin they belong to. I used paracord with the 7-strand core removed because it's what I had on hand but I'm sure other types of cord would work as well.

That’s really clever, I never would’ve thought of it

For best result, nutsert the guards, use 8mm stainless hexheads screwed in from behind with the hole for the Rclip drilled as you did, but with extra length to also hold a stainless washer. Bend the loop of the Rclip out slghtly and put a cable tie through it for easy removal and handling when storing. You can try clevis pins, but the hole is always down the other end from the head so they'll be sloppy...threading the bolt into the nutsert keeps it there so the flaps go back on with a one hand operation, and can never fall in the mud or sand.

Gday Ronny, crackin vid mate, on the back side of the mudflap, before you actually thread the bolthead through, try putting a flat washer and a spring washer on then thread the bolthead throught and stick the 'R' pin in and she should be really tight eliminating any movement in the mudflap.

If you're gonna chop the ends off bolts, do the nut up first and you'll tap/de-burr/straighten up the threads when you take the nut off. Plus it'll make it easier to clamp bolts in a vice to drill them.

Now that is a easy and great mod, I like it and definitely going to steal that idea. Thanks Ronny 👍👍

Worth noting that mounting the mudflaps with pop rivets mean if its under alot of stress, ie being driven over by the car . The rivets will break and wont ruin your guards
