I gave up on the “having my natural color is the only way to be authentically me!” Thing years ago. If theres no blue in my hair I’m just not me. And my natural blonde just makes me feel like someone else. Its one thing if you’re dying your hair for others, for sure, but when its for you, you are being authentic!

Hi 👋. You know, your hair colour is probably one of my favourite colours. The kind of colour that looks really dark and rich like it's mysterious and hiding many secrets. Dying hair is a great way to express your style, but you're right, it can make you hate what you're supposed to look like. I had my identity in my hair too. But it was for length instead of color. The ends of my hair were dead and I had a lot of split ends but I thought I would have nothing special about me if my hair wasn’t long. Several months ago I cut all the split ends off my hair. It might not seem like a big deal but it was for me. My hair is still a good length but it helped me to let go of my identity being in my hair

I hope you learn to enjoy it. I had the same issue when I was younger and the damage/care that came with bleach was not something I could keep putting myself through. so after a while, I forced myself to love my natural black hair and it's my favorite thing now 🥹

You're doing great. I stopped wearing make up for the very same reason years ago.
I don't want to think my natural body and face needs enhancing or correction.
Now, i much prefer myself as i am, and my partner tells me she loves me without make up so much more because it's my actual face with all the perfect imperfections.
I know it's less important but faces without make up are now so much more attractive to me than those with it, even the most natural looking.
So your natural hair color?
You're rocking it. We just get used to certain version of how we look like and derrogate the natural look because it feels unfinished or uglier. But it will pass.

Hair dying is obviously better than make up when it comes to societal pressures and beauty standards but anything can become corrupted if we think we look worse without it. Our natural look shouldn't be worse version of us. It should be the best.

I was in your same situation, I stopped dyeing my hair for three years, these three years helped me a lot to feel more stable and I finally appreciated my color, now im ready to change again and I'm very happy ☺️ the first year is the hardest then time flies!!

Good luck with your hair journey! One random idea to help add a splash of color back into your hair could be fun hair clips or ribbons

it's crazy that we all want what we don't have in one way or another. i had to dye my hair black to cover up some growing out color and when i tell u im sick of it and miss my natural hair color (dark brown) so bad. 😭😭 i just miss having virgin non color treated hair. luckily the black dye is just a rinse but still!

Your natural hair looks great. You can always play with wigs or clip in pieces. You can have fun with makeup and clothes.
