This should be know surprise to anyone old enough to remember a time before windows existed. People have worked on computers for a couple decades before the GUI (as we know them today) even existed. People had most of the same types of business software they use today. Spreadsheets, word processors, databases, even games and media players. Multitasking was mostly impossible, but because it didn’t exist. No one missed it.

Emacs is literally a system inside another system, and a lot of users likes it's -nw mode (without gui). With lot of differents plugins (call them layers in emacs), you can literally anything.
+ im launching spacemacs inside a tmux session, what gives me even more flexebilty.

I bounce around a lot between cloud systems and small IOT devices, so in my case being able to do everything from a terminal is more than just retro-nostalgia. Installing Windows or even X/Wayland is not a viable option on some of those systems, so I'm glad that terminal support is sufficient.

I mean a browser is a terminal. You send text to a server and get back text.

Some terminal emulators also support images and video and you can even use players like mplayer to play video directly in the tty

I didn't watch the whole short yet, but the question was "is it possible to work only from inside the terminal", and before finishing the video I want to say "yes, yes it is, I do that, and fun fact: majority of computing has been done like that. CLIs have been around way longer than GUIs have"
