Yep, this is possible now! Today we're exploring a new project that allows you to natively run Windows NT 3.51 or 4.0 on the Wii. It also works on the GameCube, but that's an idea for another day!

Bringus Studios just did a video installing a WiiU into an ATX PC. We've come full circle

As someone who started their career administering Windows NT 3.51 this is AWESOME and brings back memories. Like the memory of the first night I had to install NT 3.51 on a new server and it took me something like 8 hours to get it working, all overnight after a long day with a long day the next day. I got it done but got no sleep, still can picture the little room I was in for all that time getting it to work and how pissed I was that my boss both didn't care nor have a clue how hard that was when she got in the next day.

Thanks for the nostalgia trip, that was awesome.

Firstly we got GTA on Dreamcast, now we have full fledged Windows on Wii. Can't wait when they port Android to Nintendo 3DS

HEAR ME OUT: Bringus studios has made a PiiCii (a Wii in a PC) so why not make a collaboration so you can have 2 NT running devices in one case?

8:46 i always liked the disk drive light, it makes the wii look modern even almost 20 years later!

You beat Action Retro to this one. That's what matters.

If you get tired of moving the mouse cursor to the window buttons, open the context menu for the current window by pressing Alt-Space. Then type one of the underlined letters.

Great video! Keep it up!

Minor note - qemu-img doesn't need elevated permissions - the current directory was under Program Files and creating the image there requires admin permissions

Would be wild if people started cross-compiling old programs for Windows NT for PowerPC so it could run even more programs natively.

The effort it must take to get this kind of stuff working... mad respect to the people who made this

The "NT" stood for "Nintendo" all along.

Great video, I love projects like this. And that GameCube keyboard controller is insane

So I used to help admin an NT4 domain, around '99/2000 (we were transitioning to Win2000 when I left in Sept. of 01) and the one thing that drove me absolutely bananas about NT4 was that it didn't support USB hot-swap. Our '95 domain and our early adopters of 2000 had no problem* with that. So carrying around our stonking great 64 meg or 128 meg USB thumb drives to install drivers didn't quite go on the NT4 machines when we had to physically handle them.

*Win '95 OSR2 had to be on them and I think that was the case for 99.99% of the Win95 machines we had out there.

Nice to see that the Wii modding community's just as insane as the Sonic modding community.

(Context: the Sonic community recently invented Xbox 360 decompilation just to finally have Sonic Unleashed ported to PC)

Seeing someone run qemu-img directly on Windows shook me in a way I was not prepared for.

Big missed opportunity to call it "Wiindows NT".

At this point, the Nintendo Wii has (or has already) become the ultimate homebrew modding system, as it can literally do anything from emulation to running PC operating systems.
