RECIPE BELOW:
Okay so it is one of those extract that I do not use all that often, even though I have used it in some of the recent and upcoming recipes. I knew there had to be a way to make it myself. That was easy. It is. It just takes time. As in the waiting for it time, not really anything you have to do.

Coconut Extract
2/3 cup coconut flakes
1 cup vodka

Combine coconut and vodka in a jar.
Seal the jar. and shake.
Shake at least once a week for one month. (I did every other day)
Strain liquid, discard solids.
Bottle.
I keep mine in the refrigerator. but you do not have to.

It alcohol based why would it only last a year?

I never thought of using pre- shredded coconut instead of going through all the hassle of shredding the nut myself. It would still be better than store bought though not as good and freshly shredded.

You didn't help me. 🙄 Do we let it sit for a month or not? I need it right away. 😐

Great video~ I live on an island and coconuts are free and many of us husk our own. I bought some extract for convenience but I didn't like it. Can't wait to try.

Please tell us if it’s possible to make our own sweet corn extract. I heard that maybe corn silk can be used to infuse it. I can’t afford that $20 tiny bottle on Amazon. °\(ッ)/° ßÏG HÛGŠ

That's awesome! Can I use vegetable glycerine to get the extract, or must I use alcohol?

U asked what you can use coconut Extract for? Here's what I use it for; I use a Vanilla based protein powder that u make in the Nija or whatever you use for smoothies. I pour some ice w/ milk or coconut milk and I add Coconut extract to really punch up the flavor. Mixed with the Vanilla base powder it tastes amazing. Like a super healthy vanilla/coconut milk shake. And of course you can use it in Coconut Cream pie or coconut cake. I make both cuz I'm a coconut fanatic. Thanks for the demo. Another tip I actually got from the wine expert at my local liquor store, he recommended using Ever Clear grain alcohol instead of vodka. He uses it to make Italian limoncello. I tried it when I made Vanilla Extract. It's came out so good. I love making homemade extracts, it's so much fun and so much cheaper than store bought!!👍😋

FYI I tried using coconut extract in merengue cookies and it was a flop. I hadn't considered the oils in the coconut causing my egg whites to not whip up.

I'll try this. I use several 1 oz. bottles of coconut extract every Christmas making homemade Bailey's for gifts. It gets pretty expensive so I'm glad to see a good substitute! Thanks. (Have you tried the Bailey's recipe?)

I love it! I make my Mexican 🇲🇽and or Madagascar vanilla bean extract the same way.

You don't have to roast the coconut, just crack it open with a hammer and drink the water, soak it there you go. If you use the nut, it will turn white like milk and not clear.

Could you replace the vodka with rum or bourbon for a more robust taste? How would you use this in a flan?

Thank you for the recipe! I was planning to do vanilla, orange and lemon extracts but this seems more experimental. I have one question though: do you use freshly graded coconut flakes or packaged and store-bought coconuts?

There you go with that alcohol again. Ha ha Do you think the substitute of food grade vegetable glycerin would work for this too? Like you gave me for the vanilla extract recipe?

Soooo...I wonder if toasting the coconut first would enhance the flavor? Just a thought...
