The longest of the 7 letters of Revelation speaks prophetically about the longest and darkest period of Christianity, when the unholy alliance of Church and State coming out of Rome persecuted the faithful of God into the wilderness, introduced literal and spiritual immorality and paganism in the Church, and refused to repent. The last works of this Church are said to be superior to the first since at the end of this period the protestant Reformation brought back many truths of God's Word.
