AMD STRIX POINT - HUGE Specs & Performance Update

Today we have a HUGE update for AMD Strix Point APUs, with a MASSIVE specs and performance update for the highly anticipated NPUs. AMD recently took to the stage to discuss Ryzen AI, which includes AMD Phoenix, Hawk Point and Strix Point. Join us as we examine the latest exclusive leaks on AMD Strix Point, as we will discuss a HUGE update to the hardware specifications and expected performance of Strix Point NPUs.

These APUs are looking VERY promising, and have the potential to be a budget gamers' DREAM, and potentially even replace the low end / budget GPUs - if AMD can offer competitive enough performance at a good enough MSRP price point.

Valve should produce or license a NUC-style machine running their gaming focused Linux distro and call it the SteamDesk. Could be attractive at the right price.

I've been a budget gamer for pretty much the last ten years. Both for financial reasons and because I just don't care that much about gaming any more. Unless they are willing to give us lower-midrange CPU parts with the maximum in GPU power at a reasonable price, these things have zero value to me. What is the point of top of the line CPU performance, when the GPU part can just about match entry level dGPUs from generations ago.

Strix Halo isn’t going to be a “budget gamer’s dream.”
It isn’t going to be cheap. It might be a great laptop part. But it’s not going to be anywhere close to the price of say a 7840hx and certainly not a 7500f.

Wonder if Minisforum will make a mobo with the Strix Halo.

I really wish NPU with AI could in theory calculate a crossfire multi gpu scaling using FSR drivers.

I think you'd be surprised by the number of people waiting to see how the AI engine performs in real world terms. I'm hoping some mini PC makers also get their hands on these, if all the rumored info is correct I wouldn't mind something like this for a (relatively) low power desktop and/or home lab server.

I still have an FX 6300 and RX 580 PC and I am happy with it. Can't believe how big of a leap it would be once I build a PC in 2025.

But to do so I would need integrated graphics as good as an RX 580. 8700G is not there yet.

AI engine is for sure one of the biggest selling point is for those new APUs. I'm currently on AMD Phoenix 7840S and am really enjoying Ryzen AI. I feel I’m quite memory bandwidth bottlenecked for larger models so I’m a bit concerned how well real-world AI performance will scale based on the TOPS specifications but we will see.

Now that AMD and Nvidia killed PC gaming, APUs are more important. Maybe I'll build an office computer.

As someone holding on to an 8th gen i5 laptop, Strix Point can’t come soon enough. Do you think we will hear about release date and pricing soon?

I'm thinking a whole new socket/slot for a combined cpu and gpu meshed together. With chiplets coming into fruition and the interconnects to handle high speed traffic between modules it seems like a natural progression. Offer different sku's from mid to higher end(say 5600x to 5800x or something) along with relevant gpu's like 5600x with 7600xt, 5700x with 7700xt, 5800x with 7800xt or 7900xt and so on. Minimize mosfets, combine power phases, limit the need for seperate cooling solutions(1 water block instead of 2). This also would allow for very minimalistic sized computers. Granted this would take some "individuality" from the equation of building your own computer. Still think it would be a good idea, at least to try

i dont think Strix Halo will be a “budget gamer’s dream.”, i mean, how's that so? when phoenix 8840u only laptop could cost $999 which could get rtx 4050 for the same price
and strix halo is 16 cores, so with that reason they can mark up the price

This is more like a GPU with a CPU strapped onto it more like a console.

Nvidia should release the 50 series when GTA 6 for PC releases.

Biggest AMD desktop APU is the 3400G so far... 11CU at that time was very good.
