Vatican Released Document on the Role of the Pope | EWTN News Nightly

The Vatican recently released a study document on the role of the Pope. This comes after 3 years of dialogue with other Christian churches and may clear up questions about the role of the Holy Father in Catholicism. This work responds to the invitation of St. John Paul II to other Christians to find the forms in which the ministry of the Pope "may accomplish a service of love recognized by all concerned". The document, presented by the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, surveys the ongoing dialogue between Christian churches concerning the role of the Pope and the exercise of his ministry. Don’t panic! It is only an invitation to the Eastern Orthodox Churches to enter into discussions as to how they see the historical role of the Bishop of Rome in the Church over the centuries. I think that we all know that the discussions will not actually lead anywhere - both sides are too far apart. However, it is an act of Christian charity to listen politely to what our fellow Christians in the Eastern Orthodox Churches have to say.
