On this day 1971 | Celtic 6-1 Clyde | The last time the Lisbon Lions played together
Показать описание
On this day in 1971 a crowd of 30,000 saw Celtic beat Clyde 6-1 in what was the last ever appearance of the Lisbon Lions as a team, although Ronnie Simpson only took part in the warm-up. It could be billed as the last time because the previous day, Bertie Auld had been granted a free transfer and this would be his final appearance – 14 years to the day when he made his first appearance in a 1957 Charity Cup game against Rangers. The scorers in the Lions’ final curtain call were Bobby Lennox with a hat-trick, Willie Wallace with a brace and Stevie Chalmers.
