I want to tell you I worked at a jewelry store which specialized in handmade jewelry beading silver and gold etc. Lobster Claw clasps came out around 1977 as we used them. I remember the owner went to a show in Miami and came back with them and barrel clasps. We liked the lobster claw clasps best. (But men seemed to like the barrel clasps on their beaded style necklaces.)

I must say this was a great info video!
At the start I thought oh this is for beginners, I already know all of this but there were some tidbits I did NOT know. I am glad I stuck around and I recommend to anyone interested in older "pretties" to pay attention and enjoy it!
Some of these pieces are absolutely gorgeous! ❤

I’ve collected many types of vintage for a long time, but never much jewelry. I was pleasantly surprised that you reinforced some of the things I suspected. Thank you!

OMG! Thank you so much. I have avoided jewelry like a case of the plague! But you made such a difference. I'm going to rewatch, take notes, then go look for just a couple of pieces to start with. Happy thrifting. 😊

The lobster claw clasp was “patented” in 1996, but it has been around since the 70’s. I was curious so I googled it. 😊

“The modern lobster claw clasp was patented in 1996. However, there were earlier versions, such as one patented in 1976 by Monet Jewelers. A clasp with a similar claw-like design was also filed for patent in 1954 by Albert Nielsen. The modern lobster claw clasp gained popularity after being used by Cartier in 1959 and then more widely adopted in the late 1960s and 1970s.”
