What Did Archeologists Find In Paul Revere's Outhouse?

In September 2017, archaeologists began excavation on an outhouse, or a privy, found behind the Pierce-Hichborn house, which sits next door to Paul Revere's family home in Boston. Revere, most known for warning the colonists that the British were coming during the Revolutionary War, is an important historical figure in American history — and apparently, a lot can be learned from his bathroom habits.

I once toured Paul Revere’s house in Boston and was shocked when he only had two bedrooms and 16 children. Must’ve been cramped quarters.

About 20 years ago, the newspaper reported that the utility company was digging downtown in my large city and found a lot of interesting very old items in the area of the old outhouse on the property. It turned out that the property had belonged to my great-great grandparents in the mid-to-late 1800's, so it was their garbage that had been found!! It was so exciting to see things in the newspaper photos that had belonged to my ancestors that were gone long before I arrived on the scene! Those that dug up the items had made assumptions (like your video said) about the social status of the homeowners from the oyster shells, the broken flow blue china, medicine bottles, etc. but did not know who they belonged to originally. I was able to give them the name of the previous homeowners, the fact that they had been affluent, and that the home had been the first two-story home in the city when it was built. The items were all taken to a nearby University to be cataloged and displayed. And, the people at the University were very happy to hear that my ancestors had been the in-laws of a famous local architect that the University already had a huge display about.

Don't forget Sybil Ludington
at the young age of sixteen, would make a journey double to that of Revere (totaling 40 miles) to warn the colonists at Danbury, Connecticut of the approach of the British.

I’d like to hear about Ben Franklin and his relationship with his son, who was a governor, and loyalist that never spoke to his father again, once he discovered he was a “rebel”

I've always thought that a lot of pocket litter might fall down into outhouses, coins in particular.

Great video!

I remember history class in high school in the early 1990s where the teacher told us what a wealth of information outhouses provided. I'm actually surprised it took so long to dig this one up.

There was once a post somewhere made by some snooty Brit that basically said."oh!!! Kettles aren't a thing in the U.S. how ever do they make their tea" and some Floridian genius simply replied "we throw it into the harbor" rumor has it that the poor dude never left the burn unit.

About 10-seconds of this 9-minute video is about "What Did Archeologists Find In Paul Revere's Outhouse, " and spoiler alert- It wasn't even his outhouse.

Yeah there's an active archaeological site in Columbus Ohio over in a part of the city known as Franklinton where the oldest post office in the city is located. And they have been doing archaeological digs over in the outhouse by the old post office which was a log cabin.

According to the archaeological findings, we can safely assume that the Reveres weren't destitute as they were shitting out coins.

"...A large trunk full of John Hancock's papers."

It would have to be large.. Those papers would have to be huge just to contain his signature!
