▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
▬ Hot Club Jazz ▬ or "Jazz Manouche" / "Hot Swing"
was developed in Paris during the 1930s by the Romani guitarist Django Reinhardt and French-Italian violinist Stéphane Grappelli.

Their group “Quintette du Hot Club de France” was unusual in that it had no brass lead instruments nor drums, unlike most jazz groups of the 1930s. This was compensated by the guitar’s highly rhythmic playing style called “la pompe” (“the pump”).

Their composition “minor swing” (“Mineur Swing”), recorded in 1937, is regarded as one of the pivotal recordings of Hot Club Jazz as well as Violin Jazz.

It is characterized by simple chord changes and a repetitive structure giving Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli the opportunity to showcase their virtuosity through their solos.

This is just brilliant. Having been so dependent on sheet music, now I'm having to really use my ears! What a fantastic and inspiring teacher. Many thanks.

You are a delight Christian! You're helping me reprogram myself to enjoy voluntary practice sessions outside of just jamming. Love your exuberant spirit of String Enthusiasm! My violin Muddy says hello, and thank you!

This was fun and not too hard. I made plenty mistakes but all of them easy to correct next time through. Very cool!

I started playing with your videos a week ago. It's really so much fun to play along with them. The positive mindset in your tutorials keeps me up and playing more than I planned to. Cheers from Bochum, Germany 🙂

I‘m playing violin now for about 30 years, started when I was 7... I had a typical classic education, orchestra and so on... years ago I bought a book, jazz violin, and lost the passion, because it looked like so much work, so much ‚learning scales, musik theory‘.
Just found your videos and, not to forget the fact that it will at some point help to improvise to know what chords you need, it is so! easy to learn and understand by just play after you. Thanks a lot! You also show so much joy an fun :-)

big fan of this series coming into it from old-time fiddling. really appreciate how you get right to the playing and set it up so we can actually jam along as opposed to the blabbing and telling us what to go practice on our own.
