"Find a good independent mechanic"
They are as rare as hens teeth scotty .. most mechanic you come across today, if the scan tool doesnt tell them EXACTLY whats wrong... they cant fix it...most dont know how to diagnose a problem if what the scan tool tells them isnt necessarily the problem

And this is a prime example on why I drive an older vehicle and do most of my own work!

I had no visible leak, but i was having to refill coolant every week. My mechanic told me it was a possibility i might need my radiator replaced. But after about 2 hours, he determined it was a rusty hose clamp causing the slow leak. He replaced that, refilled my coolant, and also changed my DRL, all for $175. It's nice to have an honest mechanic. Saved me a bunch of $$$

Jiffy lube can't be trusted either. A mechanic with 25 years experience, yours truly, took his POS 2WD safari in for a LOF during a 6, 000km road trip. They said everything was fine, LOL!, except my FRONT differential needed a drain and fill. I still have the inspection sheet a decade later to show customers at our small independent shop. And before anyone says it, I resealed the rear diff after replacing the pinion seal, crush sleeve and replacing the fluid. So there just couldn't have been a mix up. My response to ask if it could wait till I get back home to my mechanic. He said no, it was dangerous and he could charge me half price because it I was still in the bay. I told him I'd take my chances because "I couldn't hear my front diff making any noise". His response was perfect. "I've been doing this for 5 years, you honestly think you know more than me?!?" I said "I guess my mechanic back home should have caught this before we went in a road trip. He services all the vehicle in my family so I better bring it up with him."

“Find a good independent mechanic”

And Bigfoot, and the tooth fairy and Santa Claus and DB cooper, might as well get them all, am I right?

They lied to me about my brakes being bad. So when I went back in later after replacing them I placed the pads on the counter and asked if the brake pads were good, they were... 80% life or better with a deep groove still visible. I told the service guy, be honest and you'll have more business in the long run.

Not only wipers. The cup holders must be managed by computer module as well. A glitch in software shall reject any cup except dealer's digitally signed special reprogramming cup.

Always ask for the old parts that were replaced. Always.

Wipers controlled by computer - just another ridiculously expensive part a mechanic can charge you for when it goes wrong. I'm convinced now that car manufacturers are no longer interested in building quality product, just a product that will generate as much profit as possible.

I once had a Honda dealer tell me I needed new rear shocks because they were leaking. They wanted over $400 for two shocks. That was at 140, 000 miles. It has 345, 000 miles on it now and still has those same shocks.

They want you to trade it in for a new one, then sell your old one with a $ 4000.00 mark up.

This is why my dealership sends videos to customers about everything going on with the car
