In this video I’ll be showing how to light up your Komplete Kontrol keyboard with the correct colours, using Kontakt - so do subscribe for more videos like this and ring the bell to keep up to date with our notifications and deals.

So you’ve bought yourself a brand new Native Instruments keyboard and you load up Kontakt, expecting to see all the coloured lights - but you don’t. Instead, all the lights are blue.

The reason for this is that Kontakt alone doesn’t support the lights of Komplete Kontrol keyboards. You need to use another bit of software to wrap around Kontakt instruments which will control the coloured lights.

That software is called Komplete Kontrol and it looks very similar to Kontakt - you can get it from Native Instruments. When you first load Komplete Kontrol it will look something like this. Go to INSTRUMENTS -- NATIVE INSTRUMENTS -- KONTAKT.

Then you need to make some adjustments to get the interface looking the way you’re used to with Kontakt. Go to the dropdown arrow here and select VIEW -- EDIT VIEW. That brings back the Kontakt interface you’re familiar with and you can load instruments in the normal way. You’ll now see all the pretty colours on your hardware keyboard.

If you want to go further and hide all the Komplete Kontrol related menus head back to VIEW and uncheck all of the checked options. This will give you an interface that looks as close to Kontakt as possible.

So tell us in the comments, do you own a Komplete Kontrol keyboard? Which features do you love, and which do you never use?

For more tips and tricks don't forget to subscribe and be sure to ring the bell to get notifications - thanks for watching.

Great tips, I've never considered launching Kontakt from within Komplete Kontrol.

Thanks for the tip, great video, even if in this case I already knew that^^ it's really helpful you put these kinds of tips out there.
I always wonder if using Komplete Kontrol takes up much more CPU and RAM than just using straight up Kontakt. Any wisdom on that you can share?

Great video, it took me a lot of time to find a way to do it in Kontakt. It's a shame they don't support in Kontakt while I really don't like the interface in KK. It's a great workaround and you should have got more thumbs up for doin this.

Thank you for this. Sometimes i use a a kontakt library in KK (I don't own a NI Keyboard) and i wanted to see the key switches but couldn't. Now I know how.

How i this solved with Kontrol MK3? Will it simply just work by default?

Can we use mutli outputs in Kontakt when used within the Komplete Kontrol shell?

This is the exact reason I didn't buy an NI controller keyboard. It's insane that I have to use additional software made by NI to use features of their other software and hardware. I would have been simple and great to just have Kontakt support this natively.

I still can't find information on whether you can use Kontakt as a multi-instrument shell as you normally do.

On Mainstage, should load Kontakt or Komplete Kontrol?

Could you please explain why there are colours on it in the first place?

Thanks!

Needs an update. The Lates version of Komplete Kontrol looks different. There is no drop-down arrow, but an ellipsis instead. "Edit View" is greyed out.

Why don’t they make the colors available in the mixer that they have in machine 2 software ?

What do the different colours mean? Thanks

How do I make this as a default? I don't want to do that every time I create a track in my project (basically dozens of times).

I tried that, and it still doesn't color up the keyboard. I give up.

I own KK s88 and therefore I have KK application, but I can’t register it!!! I mailed support but they gave me no reply (sorry for the Beatles). I guess, I’ll have to download KK from the torrent, ‘cause i have a keyboard for freaking 1100 dollars, but not an essential software for it, man what a hell?!
