Dell's mad scientist set out once more to put together a super thin gaming notebook with minimal compromises when it comes to performance, noise and temperatures.
With the new 16" addition to their high-end Alienware line-up, it seems like they succeeded across the board ... almost.

No MiniLED and soldered RAM unfortunately but I could compromise on that by getting the QHD+ 240 Hz 100% DCI-P3 panel - if the brightness level wouldn't be that underwhelming... For batterylife I think the test might be a bit messed up. So that would be OK I think, especially on the AMD Version with the 7940HS. Great options for the keyboard as well: For Alienware Laptops I like the membrane switches more because after trying the cherry mx low profiles I find them to have way to high initial force and after that the resitance is completly gone. Don't like that force curve at all ^^

But for a "regular" keyboard + "regular" display it's just too expensive right now. 13800HX would've been nice aswell but performance is still very good. I like the raised display, the design and the cooling solution is great, too. it is larger at the back but the chassis is <20mm thin therfore. Also sound should be very great, performance on battery is very good, very fast wifi and sdcard reader, compact GaN charger but wondering how good/bad the touchpad is. I can somehow live with its small size and I do tap instead of click.

Absolutely true, Alienware models are incredibly expensive outside the US. Even the UK wasn't spared. Here in my country the flagship laptop with maxed out specs costs around $5700 including Alienware's tax+Customs+Local taxes. Whereas somehow ROG and Acer offer laptop rates, say, at a $600 to $700 more than the US.
Not to mention you can't choose any upgrades for yourself which is the main selling point of Dell and Lenovo.

The thing that is peaking my interest towards this system is the Speaker set up.
The thinness of it is appealing and the cutting edge design of it. Gonna wait for a nice sale and cop one.

At this price tag, it should have had a mini led with 500 plus nits brightness

This machine is insane. It's pretty good overall, but the soldered RAM looks like an error in the project.
If it was cheaper it would be great option in comparisson to ROG and Lenovo, but for me Alienware is a total skip

While the written review fails to state the relevant noise values for Balanced, the Furmark noise samples in this video review are overwhelmingly good. I would buy this notebook (and put a label on the Alien head) if a) the video did not come 2 months after my desktop purchase, b) Alienware prices in Germany equalled those in the USA after currency conversion and tax, c) a German mechanical keyboard was available now 3 months after launch, d) the motherboard would not be inverted inhibiting easy fan cleaning and e) Dell fixed the system control software before (instead of after) my desktop purchase. As long as Dell creates planned obsolesence and treats non-US endconsumers the most terribly, I do not buy Dell products. --robert jasiek

Great review. Unfortunately the brightness kills it for me.

The RGB touchpad is the unique feature for X series comparing against M series. If possible, I hope other brands could apply this style.

A bit underappreciated is how much larger the X16 is compared to the Blade 16 and Asus M16. It's the difference between fitting in a typical laptop bag designed for 15" laptops and not fitting.

could you post a link to your laptop wallpaper?

149 minutes on battery at 150 nits brightness is terrible. Surely this must be some kind of software / firmware bug? Was considering to get one but this is a real deal-killer.
Also that 300 nits screen rlly needs a brightness bump.

I have ordered this laptop! A big issue is getting a US keyboard in Germany. I Havnt had a Alienware laptop in 13 years so interested to see how it all goes! That old m18 is still working tho!

Mine required a new keyboard right out of the box. Dell sent out a tech to fix it. He was running the hardware diagnostics, and it said everything was fine. Start running a benchmark and the system was running at 30% of its performance and getting random power usage and fps spikes. The tech didn't know why. I noticed he left the laptop unplugged during diagnostic. Told him to boot again and run the diagnostic while plugged in. Fixed everything and ran fine after.

Is it worth to upgrade from Lenovo x230 to this Alienware x16?
