Irish border tech solution 'could be a decade away'

The Northern Irish border and how to keep it open after the UK leaves the EU has been one of the biggest obstacles to passing a Withdrawal Agreement.

Brexiteers argue a technological solution is possible but Sky News has seen a Home Office document that suggests such a solution could be more than a decade away.

Sky's political correspondent Lewis Goodall has more.

As somebody who lives on the border, there is absolutely NO way any form of technology will work as a replacement for a hard border. It’s alright for big conservatives like Johnson and Reese-Mogg to talk about this as if it’s a viable option but they know as much as me that there’s absolutely zero practicality to it judging that there are thousands of crossing along the border.

Also mentioning technology on the border people also seem to forget that we have some of the worst broadband connection in Europe with most of the entire border have little to no coverage. I know this is a side issue but I just thought I’d point this out, we are horrendously underdeveloped.

I understand that people CAN see this as a clear option forward but anybody who either lives/works or has experienced here knows there is no chance.

A decade away? That is like two times faster than Brexit.
On the other hand i figured the the invisible border would mostly involve fog machines.

A United Ireland within the EU is the BEST solution.

Looking at the tech solution, I've done some research into machine learning for a different field and I've read of the successful applications in the Teslas auto pilot mode that is 4 times safer than a human driver using its self learning software that has 1 billion miles to reference. If the tech solution is put into place it will most likely have a lot of inconsistencies at the start and the cost will initially start higher to maintain the border, but it will become more reliable as time goes on.
Ireland and Northern Ireland actually implementing a technical solution like this seems more improbable than if it will work or not, but I do think with how technology is advancing it is possible that a solution like this could efficiently work in the near future, just not on the Irish border.

LOL it's not going to happen and it has nothing to do with technology.
