I don't use Pop myself, but I have been getting into Rust, so I'm excited for this. The GUI side of things has always been something people said needs more work, so a big project like this will likely make things speed up more.

Pop is a distro that never managed to win me over, but I'm really curious about this project!

Good thing finding out about Iced. Cosmic is shaping up nicely and because so much being rust, there'll be more time for bringing new features and life improvements instead of fixing security vulnerabilities and bugs, which I'm very glad. Can't wait to find it in the arch repos and try it's speed on older computers.

This looks so smooth, I can't wait to try it out! BTW, there will be no Pop!_OS 22.10 from what the Devs have said. Since 22.04 was an LTS release, they are gonna stick with that, and let the next major release be with their Cosmic Desktop. :)

a 22.10 version got denied, in order to focus on cosmic. Just so you peeps know :)
i think this was a good choice. the more time they have to get it "just right", the better.

22.10 got canceled & the current plan is to move to yearly releases.

So we'll be seeing 23.04.

Forget Cutefish; this project has so much potential. Looking forward to trying this out.

Hope they don't leave this settings app as it is because using popups for settings is kinda weird I think. But apart from that this looks really good. If it is lightweight I would definitely consider using it as my DE instand of Xfce.

Dude, thanks for this video. Due to you, I discovered iced. I was searching for something like this (a simple GUI library) for a long time.

No 22.10 release as the devs have announced. They plan on focusing on the development of cosmic epoch (rust DE)

It doesn’t choose it over C, it chooses it over Gnome

Looks familiar, yet modern and refreshing. The choice of a newer language is also very good. I'd love more, properly developed and modern DE/Shells. Same with MauiShell. Can't wait!

I recently went over to Pop Linux from Windows after a botched update that left me with a bunch of corrupted system files.

So far, I’m VERY happy with it, as it looks to be the most compatible with my hardware (the version with native Nvidia support didn’t hurt either).

I feel like System76 is creating a biggest leap in Linux since Linus send his legendary email in 1991. This is huge. I have only three wishes which doesn't even have to come true:
1. The file picker (when downloading a file) becomes a keyboard driven. The GTK version is the worst part in the whole Linux. Easily.
2. No dotfiles at home. Ever. (If user didn't set env var)
3. Suckless family gets Pop_OS! / Redox equivalents written in Rust

Thanks for the great content. I'll be your newest subscriber and follow the updates keenly. This is going to be huge hopefully for the whole System 76.

Very excited to try it out once released

Excellent.... Can't wait for the all rust desktop. Also there's a vscode editor written in rust called Lapce and it's open source. Thanks for the inside put.

Definitely an exciting project to follow along the way.

iced looks pretty good. i may do a project with it if i can get it to play with C without too much trouble.

If they're ditching Gnome it might be a good time to give this distro a chance. Did you notice there's actually a minimize button on that window?
