It’s approaching 60 years since Gigliola won the Eurovision Song Contest with her song Non Ho L’età (Per Amarti). Since that victory in 1964, the song has made it back to the Eurovision stage a second time – in 1991, when the Contest was hosted in Rome. Gigliola co-presented Eurovision that year, also performing the classic song as an interval act during the show.

No sparkle, no special effects, no staging, no lights. All she needed was her voice. Majestic! Old but gold eurovision.

Gigliola deserves a special tribute. 60 years of musical career. She sings in eleven languages. More than 800 songs. Over 28 million physical copies. Undisputed queen of song. Many beautiful princesses but only one true queen: Gigliola Cinquetti.

The music genre, the use of the voice, the melody, the dress, the meaning of the song, the length of it, her old beauty: i think it was like a time travel for many of us who didn't experience that period, it was magical.

My mum used to sing this song when I was little. She was a great singer and used to perform at local festivals where she sang versions of her favourite Italian ballads. My mum and I were very close. Unfortunately, she died in 1994 at the age of 46. I was 18 then. When I heard this song after so many years at Eurovision 2022, it gave me the shivers and I couldn't hold tears. It brought me back to my childhood and all the special moments spent with my mum. What an unexpected gift! x

When I realised that it would be HER on the stage, the one and only - Gigliola Cinquetti, I was like OMG OMG OMG! Thank you, Eurovision, for this amazing surprise!

After almost 60 years, at least in a way, we finally have a full TV recording of her performing her winning song at Eurovision.

I don't want to be bad because the show was fun and I love modern music, but this piece honestly is better than 99% of the stuff presented tonight that few will remember in a few years.

The song (1964) is about a 16 y.o. girl who doesn't feel ready to make love with her bf. Now Gigliola is 74 and still sings at the end: "If you'll wait for me, one day I'll give you all my love". I imagine her poor bf, who's been waiting for quite 60 years, hoping to make love with her ...

La prima volta fu che vidi la diretta e fu standing ovation.
La seconda volta fu che mi commossi per lei.
La terza, cioè subito prima di queste parole, ho pianto di nuovo per il pubblico che cantava.

Viva Gigliola Cinquetti!
Viva Eurovision Song Contest!

The great songstress of San Remo. Totally natural, style, class and talent. She just stands still behind the microphone and draws the audience to her. No staging gimmicks, pure emotion in the voice . I can remember just about when she came second to Abba's Waterloo with her song 'Si.' Her version of El Condor Pasa is one of the most beautiful things you will ever hear. She is truly remarkable and I hope that she felt that wave of love from the Eurovision fans . The great Gigliola Cinquetti.

I still tear up at this performance - a wonderful legacy of how the Eurovision Song Contest used to be - about the song and NOT the performance
