Russia’s Geography is its Own Worst Enemy.

This is Russia and it's huge. At first, Russia's geography looks impressive, spanning across two continents but the biggest weakness is its Geography itself.

Let me explain, much of Russia is covered in frozen tundra and taiga forests which is why most of the population resides here in eastern europe. Such harsh and unforgiving climate also makes development and agriculture incredibly difficult.

Most importantly, the western part of Russia is located on a European flat plain stretching from France to Russia's Ural Mountains. This flat plains makes it impossible to defend its western border. Which is why Putin needs buffer countries like Belarus and Ukraine to keep NATO out of Russian borders.

Also, most of the major Russian ports will be completely frozen in the winter. Which is why Putin’s Russia obsesses over Sevastopol port in Crimea.
