""The monster never dies no matter how many times you kill it. It just sheds its skin and changes form.""
""I can feel the weight of the world pushing me down, I try to carry it nonetheless. One last time, then I can rest.""

6 years later, this is by far the most underrated/underappreciated piece made by Mick. The mixture between the melancholy of the violins and the violence of the guitars is truly masterful... one of the top tracks Mick has ever produced imo.

This is the only story I know where the plot armour of the main character feel more like a curse of endless struggle rather than a blessing

Humanity burns most bright in the darkest of days. This song truly brings tears to my eyes for what it represents.

"I was a kid, we had
a monster in our basement. My father said if I'd done wrong it would
creep out at night and come for me. I tried to do no wrong, but the
monster came all the same."

Between Old Blood and New Order, Machinegames have proved that they have impeccable taste in music. Everything about this song is outstanding.

I love how he screams FROM THE in the last part. All the anger and sorrow of a partisan in that scream. Bravo

You know, this song actually invokes the bittersweet feelings about the main game's ending. The violins coupled with the guitar just seem to convey the right amount of anger and sadness which to me personally is an incredible thing to accomplish with a song like this.

Bethesda: "Mister Gordon, would you like to make the soundtrack for our new game?"

Mick Gordon: *Cracks knuckles* "How many awards for game music do you want?"

With this song it's very easy to imagine a a man sitting in a empty home up against the broken down walls holding out a locket with an image of his family and him while the battle outside rages on before he rushes back out knowing he might never come back to see them but it's a battle he has to try winning to keep them safe, very powerful stuff.

Good job Mick.

So much emotions in his track:
The feeling of being scared;
The feeling of having fear to stand up for what's worth living for;
The feeling of loss, depression, sadness and defeat;
The feeling that you are forced to give up at a corner and to submit like a slave.

But at the same time, there's a part of you that wanna snap saying: I CAN'T STAND WITH THIS BULLSHIT! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!
So you stand up against what scares you, what brings you fear, what demoralizes you.
Incoming the feeling to fight
The feeling of anger and hate against your oppressors
The feeling of rage from your endless torture
The feeling of vengeance for what you lost
The feeling of having the will to live and moving forward.
The feeling to protect what you hold dear to you and what's left to hold.

In all that is dark and grimm for Humanity, there is one thing that cannot be destroyed...

Hope. And I think that's one of the many reasons Blazcowicz is fighting for.

Lyrics:
When they poured across the border
I was cautioned to surrender
This I could not do
I took my gun and vanished.
I have changed my name so often
I've lost my wife and children
But I have many friends
And some of them are with me
An old woman gave us shelter
Kept us hidden in the garret
Then the soldiers came
She died without a whisper
There were three of us this morning
I'm the only one this evening
But I must go on
The frontiers are my prison
Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing
Through the graves the wind is blowing
Freedom soon will come
Then we'll come from the shadows.

I sincerely think this is the best end credits song I've ever heard. It just matches the global feeling of Old Blood so much. It's so depressing and shows how lonely B.J. is in his battle, since 3 out of the 4 allies he comes to met dies in front of him, letting him carrying alone the burden of saving the world from the wicked hold of the seemingly unstoppable Nazi forces, and yet it has (just like Blazko) this "We won't give up anyway" vibe...
To me, this song resumes perfectly the final mindstate of the game: "I've been through hell and back, I've seen surreal horrors and discovered the darkest secrets, I've lost my friends and seen my world set ablaze by the Nazis... But now there's hope to turn the tides as we're heading for a final mission to save the world..."

As B.J. says himself: "I feel the weight of the world pushing me down. I try to carry it nonetheless...one last time...then I can rest."

... And sadly, he couldn't have been more wrong.

My friend gave me Wolfenstein: The Old Blood for my birthday. I enjoyed every moment of the game...But I wasn't expecting something beautiful at the end, and I have now gone and dug through your work. Truly this made my day all the better.

You're amazing, Mick. Keep up the amazing work!
