Made in Abyss Explained? - A Truly Wild Fan Theory In 2024

As promised, today we take a look at a single theory in regards to some Made in Abyss lore, submitted by a regular user and it's...quite something.

Made in Abyss is an extremely cryptic series, but the fanbase has likely come a ways in terms of puzzling the entire Lovecraftian nightmare out.

Given the entire Nanachi situation in the current chapter 67, if they substitute Nanachi's vision of the forcefield with the relic glasses (the ghost sight), and if Riko gets to be one wearing it...hmm.

Mmh, the theory of the letter being sent by Riko herself had already floated in the past, I think.... Could Made in Abyss end in a time-loop, where Riko manages to stop the 2000-year cycle, but, in order to do it, she must go to the bottom of the Abyss and, to be sure that this happens, she sends a letter to her past self (something maybe possible with some technologies from the bottom of the Abyss)?

We have had theories before where Riko sends that letter from the bottom of the Abyss to herself. This just further proves it - time works totally different down there!

This is excellent! I always enjoy your videos and the comments and theories from the other patrons. I’m really curious about three things. One, the shrine maiden and her connection to Cravagli and Tepaste and how they have been traversing the Abyss. Two, What roles Wakuna, Srajo, and Lyza have in the later chapters. And three, what will happen to Riko since she was given life by the curse warding relic. I also believe that the shrine maiden or miko is a talisman of sorts that will also help to usher in the new dawn and help Riko plus others not immune to the curse to travel back up the Abyss without bearing the curse. If Tepaste and Cravagli traveled back and forth through the Abyss, there’s a high chance that it was somewhere before the Absolute boundary and the Shrine Maiden is the key to safely traveling up and down in the Abyss. I’m also curious as to how Bondrewd has not heard about the Shrine maiden or if he has even encountered them before or sent Umbra hands to go looking for the shrine maiden.

So i'm sham, but i really dont agree to this theory, it's just pretty interesting.

But a theory i have is that the letter is actually part of the hariyomari collection : the letter seems to be part of a larger text, it being a relic itself, it wouldnt surprise me.
Might be something related to the priestess, or maybe lyza herself, who knows the secrets of the hari collection, actually sent this letter up because she needed riko to reach the bottom for some reason, and that would make her a vilain.
Not sure how the priestess and lyza would be related, but wakuna's title being "sovereign of Guidance", that would fit pretty well the Idea of needing an information to reach the bottom alive, him guiding people through the 7th (maybe the ring ?), idk actually i'm kinda going headcanon rn

Great video, keep it up! It's an interesting theory for sure. But why send something like that, doesn't it feel whatever is going on at the bottom of the abyss is urgent?

I do wonder if the Made in Abyss is doing a sort of mirror situation with Riko and Lyza? Lyza is the annhilator.. a destroyer, but what is she destroying? You don't get that title for nothing! Maybe if the Abyss is some huge monster, she wants to kill or or collapse the abyss or something along those lines. Or maybe she is trying to accelerate this 2000 major event, maybe she wants to destroy humanity? Riko being a mirror version would be trying to save the abyss or the world, right? From whatever the 2000 year cycle event is.
