KLM has been a faithful Boeing customer for decades
I am happy to know that KLM made a pragmatic decision
And decided to move to the A-320 neo family

In 25 years, Boeing will be similar to Lockheed Martin.

2:31 'neo' in the first place stands for 'new engine option', but I'm sure it also coincided nicely with the regular meaning of the word neo.

The noise aspect cannot be underestimated. Schiphol, KLM's base, has a very big noise problem. It's Europe's fourth busiest airport in terms of passenger numbers. More people fly via Schiphol than via Frankfurt. But the Netherlands is also one of the most densely populated countries in Europe (not _the_ most densely populated, not by a long shot, despite what some Dutch like to think).

The government has had a, shall we say, flexible approach towards the noise pollution from Schiphol, because money. But there's a lot of pressure, including court cases, to comply with environmental laws. So the plan was hatched to drastically reduce the number of flights. That's when the Americans chipped in, and told the Dutch in no uncertain terms that this would lead to them losing landing rights in the USA, on the oh so profitable transatlantic route.

50% less noise is a no-brainer.

It's AirFrance/KLM, so that french connection might have played a major role too, but KLM was kind of disappointed with the quality of their 787s too when they got them.

KLM is also transitioning from the Booeing 787 to Airbus A350. Initially, KLM was going to fly the A350 with Air France primarily flying the 787. Then, 787s went to KLM with all A350s going to Air France. Now, KLM will replace the 787 with A350. Air France might continue to fly both. We will all see

As a passenger it makes me nervous to fly any 737 given all the safety issues Boeing's had with the newer models over the last several years. I just flew with KLM from Schipoll to Los Angeles on a 787 dreamliner. Very comfortable flight with excellent service.

For people with adhd: 737 go boom and a320 neo don’t go boom.

KLM has the last 737-800 ever built however. It was built in 2019. Registration is PH-BCL

With the Air France-KLM Group 20% purchase of SAS Group - then it is logical as Air France and Scandinavian Airlines only use the Airbus A320 family in that size group.
I am quite sure that the A321neo LR/XLR will decentralize the flight routes especially between Western Europe and Eastern North America. The 737 MAX cannot compete in that market. If you are not on the bandwagon with the long skinny routes, you will lose customers. With the A320 family, it will also be easier to get certified pilots, etc. to the A350, as the Airbus planes have largely identical cockpits, apart from the old A300 and A310.
The alignment of the fleet is also found in the subsidiaries. Air France Hop, KLM Cityhopper and SAS Link, which only use Embraer E-Jet family aircrafts.

The way America treats ASML I'm not at all surprised more and more Dutch companies are avoiding dealing with Americans. Imagine Boeing saying where we can and can't fly.

The french government has a minor stake in both Airbus and Air France-KLM and they choose the Airbus option…I believe that’s not a coincidence.

These changes happen . In fact KLM was never a Boeing airline, it used McDonnell Douglas DC9, DC8 and DC10s . It was quite a shock when they moved to 737s to replace DC9s . Switching from Boeing is not so huge . In any case, as part of Air France group, Air France already has A320 etc, so no great surprise .
