Thank you for making a point to call out manufacturers for the touch screen controls and removing physical buttons. It’s lazy on their part and frustrating and dangerous for consumers.

Thanks for the great review MotoMan. Regarding the lack of buttons or knobs for the routinely used functions, the manufacturers are saving a bunch of money deleting buttons by moving the controls to the screen and they are not likely to change their mind on this direction. In addition, many of today’s young nitwits think moving the controls to the screen is “like cool”.

8:01 I believe the fan setting is not related to the loudness of the fan while driving the vehicle, but rather how loud the fan is during charging. It really doesn’t influence the sounds when driving, so the iconic sounds will be more prevalent.

I went to a BMW EV event and drove this and the i7 M60 and I just cannot get excited about these soulless cars. Too heavy, too boring, too expensive, too little range, too much depreciation. If you need to lease one for your business I guess it's an OK appliance, but if you are a normal car buyer stay far away unless you hate money.

Good review Motoman.👍🏾

On my way home yesterday, I saw a BMW I4 M on the highway in front of me taking the same exit ramp. I followed the driver for about three miles and he/she was driving the car like a Formula 1️⃣ championship driver. I think BMW could be on the right track for handling, but MAN, these German chariots are pricey!! 🤑

Love the episode but, I am adding my name to the petition of adding buttons and knobs back, this app for everything is just insane. Honestly im not a big ev fan but i would say that im glad that ev's are starting to look like regular cars. I loved the ioniq5N and i think you are right about BMW should engineer some soul into this as well.

These reviews are fantastic, thank you

I agree. I’d like a BMW M3 EV that does what the Ionic 5N did so well.

The regeneration of electricity is sometimes limited due to a limit in how much and where electricity can be stored. Ultimately the current handling circuits for regen like onboard charging circuits have a limit of how much electricity they can handle. If the battery is near full then it becomes the limiting factor for electrons because they top out gradually dictated by the BMS. I’m not sure Hyundai IONIQ 5 N strategy at the limits but my guess is they took their mastering of blended braking to another level along with beefing up the regen current capabilities. This whole regen as I drive the IONIQ 5 AWD Limited is that it offsets the power used for cabin climate control and adds greater braking control. So it’s like comfort for free and convenience to boot. The N is like an extra lap for free and allows for a performance one pedal controllability in the turns. Unfortunately this M60 did not divorce the euro B pedal regen thinking which Hyundai never adopted. Hyundai took this efficiency and brilliance to a whole new level with the a set of paddles all while keeping your eyes on the road. Want to slow down a hill without braking it’s easy. Stuck in traffic, you’ll love iPedal’s ability to let you use just the go pedal to move about. Use Auto-Regen to let the vehicle adjust based on circumstances. Haven’t reviewed Hyundai’s next generation iPedal but I’ve heard say it’s stronger which I’m guessing they brought over some N regen capabilities to the regular line up. Great review. 17:24

Motorman love your reviews thanks. You stress me out though doing some of it stopped outside the car on a blind corner. 🙃

As an owner of an i4 xDrive40, I find B mode very capable of one-pedal driving (understanding it is not the same vehicle as the i5 M60). I went back to view the video where you tried B mode and at the start of that segment, the dash on the right shows D instead of B (at 14:21), but at the end of that portion, it does show B (14:47). So I was just wondering if you were really in B mode during those earlier turns? Again, just curious as I find B mode to perform well in the i4.

The one pedal driving works perfectly and is as good as Tesla, however the car defaults to “auto” mode which has little regeneration and a “B” mode that is one pedal driving. I wish this was a setting that allowed you to default to “B” instead of “D” which is auto/coast mode.

16:35 it seems suicidal to stop here. Is that a closed course? :)

In any case, great video. Thanks for the hard work.

Had a proper laugh when you said "that EQS pile of garbage" :D (i still can´t understand how first gen EQS didn´t came with 800V arquitecture but hey... never too late i guess)
I say again and again... BMW is doing a great job, specially in the last 5-10 years. Like it or not their engineering team is really up there. It´s really making a Porsche lover like myself have a second look at their car offers. ok, no chance but at least i like to take a look :)

Everyone harps on the exterior design, but it's the interior of the design on the new 5 series I just don't love. I think I'd rather take an i4 M50 over this and sacrifice the extra room and put some cash back in my pocket, plus the hatch is great.

EuroNCAP won’t give future cars 5 stars if it doesn’t revert to buttons. The other thing I don’t get is last gen idrive. When you moved your finger toward the screen the sub menus just appeared. They’ve dropped that. And don’t get me started about emails. BMW had it. Just wouldn’t pay providers. It’s bonkers for a work car.
