This was a great video and definitely helped refine our production settings! Trying to understand the elastic documentation is a nightmare! Thank you!

Nicely explained.

I have a question. I currently have a setup where I am storing metrices of an application as an ElasticSearch index.

It is required that I store only records that are 30 days old from today into the hot store and then move the older records (records greater than 30 days) in cold storage.

I tried doing that with ILM but it moves the entire index into cold storage rather than the records.

I am thinking I will need to rollover indexes everyday and then move the ones that are older than 30 days to cold storage.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the nice insights of ILM. I have one question regarding the index increment number. In your video it shows the index increment happened with +1 but in my case it didnt happened like this. I can see index like somethin_20, 21, 24, 27, 28, 29 like this. Any idea why this happens?

I did a basic install of ELK and have struggled with ILM. I think my issue may be that the indexes are all yellow health. I figured I would start there, get the indexes green. My setup is one ELK node. the YML doesn't have a node.roles entry. is that required for ELK 7.17*? Did you add it or was it part of the YML? My goal is to delete data after 3G is reached. my indexes ignore those rules I've input on size and time (7 days) and are in the 80G's right now.

Great video it would however have been nice to see the logstash integration with ILM as well.

Interesting...Could you please tell me...Filebeat have many modules, is that possible to create different INDEX name for FortiGate, Some other log files, Azure logs from one Filebeat service. It will be extremely helpful. I want replace logstash with Filebeat...as most of the module is available in Filebeat...

i am still confusing. Fisrt data moves on hot (whenever it comes from file beat) then after 5 days it moves into "warm phase" then moves into "Cold phase" when it is 10 days old. My question is how old a data will be when he enters the "Cold Phase" 10 or 15 days ? I do not understand when the time starts.

How did you configure indices to have date-index increment 10:00? What are the template patterns? You actually didn't show the most interesting part.
