It reminds me of when mike dean was “disappointed” that a team didn’t score when in reality it looked more like “FFS i just ran the length of the pitch and now you’re countering!”

Also some if not most of them older than the players

I’d be calling random fouls just to catch my breath

There was a time Mateu Lahoz outran a sprinting Busquests. That's if you consider whatever Busquests was doing as "sprinting"

Those fitness requirements are for regional leagues in Portugal as well
Tried and failed brutally

One thing people don't realise is how professional these professional athletes are. The worst player you know is probably 10x the player you can be

Damn they really need to be fit. I knew refs have to run a lot, but I didn't think they needed that kind of fitness to do it lol. Thanks Tifo

Thoughts to the referees like Collina who do the job for about 20 years, past their 40s and are still able to run 90 minutes, sometimes 120, along players at least 10 years younger than them, while making the good decisions.

Their awareness of position on the pitch is amazing

Imagine Anthony Taylor sprinting 40 metres six times that too under six seconds💀

These refs deserve wayy more credit y'all! They need to be fit physically and mentally! Spilt second decisions, top speeds and no room for mistakes!

It is important to remember that referees have to be elite athletes as well, not just the players

FIFA really making them refs pull a “The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues.”

I used to referee and run the line. Being a linesman was more tiring with endless sprinting and sidestepping

in other words, very fit - in order to have even a chance at officiating a game adequately. too bad in US, local law enforcement doesnt demand passing of similar annual fitness tests. one typically only needs to be fit upon hiring. as if fitness is not a continuing requirement 😕

that's why retired refs would be perfect for the VAR booth.

Referees tend to cover more distance than any player on the field, so they need good physical endurance.

I appreciate the use of freedom units.

That 10 lap thing in 21:30 is ridiculously easy. My easy distance pace would easily put me under 17:30. I am not the best runner, but I could probably do it in under 14 minutes if I were to race it
