Been running this version of test for 4 years with our referees. Find that this test is much easier than the Cooper. It allows for training on the pitch.
We have trained for this by starting with 150 runs 50 walks, then 100 runs with 100 walks then 100 with 50 walks then 75/75 then 75/50 until 75/25 for 10 laps then for time 40 minutes then 35 minutes then 30 minutes until you can complete 10 laps in 27 to 30 minutes. Then add the test timer.

I'm 58 years old, latecomer reffing 4 years (inc 2 years lockdown) going for lev 5 2023. I really struggle with continuous paced longer distance running (and on roads it kills my knees). I cover 8/9km at most games and obviously sprint/walk/jog throughout. I am rarely not up with play but I don't even feel the impact or feel tired. My body is made more for shorter burst high intensity stop/start activity so hopefully I'll be OK with this type of regime.

Running the cat 1 (15/18) in a few weeks. All I can say is build up to the test in sets of 12-16 sprints with a 2-4 minute rest between sets. Big part is that It’s the quality of your training, not the quantity. Eat right, get l(ots of nuts, leafy greens, lean protein & simple carbohydrates), get plenty of sleep (8 hrs) do recovery sessions after every running session and please, please don’t think you can do a ton of running the week before leading up to the test and think you’ll be in tip top. Build your stamina in a crescendo like manner and take the 2-3 days before the test off so you’re fresh as a daisy for the pft. Best of luck my fellow arbiters. Do well and don’t take any shit 😚💨

Hola!

This is what we do in Nigeria. Expecially in Lagos.

But for us. It's 75M run ( 12secs)
25 m walk ( 6 secs) × 48 times (12 laps)

1 lap ( 100m × 4)

Issue is the 40m sprints before this. 6 of them with only 1 minute break between. Extreme risk of injury.

A fitness test that replicates what you'd probably do in a game.

So what is exactly level 3 in England? Which level from the top beginning from Premier League. In Poland I run this test, 15 sec run, 22 sec rest for several years already and we do 12 laps instead of 10. From the top (Ekstraklasa) I am at the highest 6th league(okręgowa)

New Zealand has been using this as a component in the Fitness Test for referees for some time. How do we prepare for it - practice it, every few weeks, as part of our regular training.

For those going for level 6 or level 5, is there any requirement to pass a fitness test?

I'm supposedly level 6 in England and I was doing this fitness test 2/3 times a year back in my country. The way England gives a category to foreign referees that come to live in the UK is ridiculous, at least my FA. I had 3/4 years of experience and they've put me as level 6 due to that, but in my original country I was in the second highest level of a county and doing better games and higher standard than here.
Overall I stayed very disappointed with the referee way in the UK, too amateur in the amateur leagues
