1. "So the cheaper stuff" is insulting to his choice - he runs a business after all, puts you immediately on back foot.

2. To start talking about "higher status" means you need to delve into the experiential element more e.g. how do you layout the wine at your events? How often will the guests see the bottle? How important is the champagne as a talking point at the event? Etc.

3. Ended with a closed question - "do you want me to go over some options?" Instead, "well the difference between that and this will be xyz".

4. Didn't bother talking about the actual wine itself - where it was grown, how it's better, why it's better (apart from appealing to ego), and most importantly how it will improve the event for his guests and result in increased revenue, repeat visits etc.

5. Why does he want to show some options if the task was to sell that specific champagne!
