How Google Maps reviews work

My mom's business got hit with 10 1-star reviews in a day from a review bomb, two of them were exact duplicates. Google's ML algorithm did not pick it up.

I today received a message saying that 'Your account was banned from publishing reviews due to a violation of our policies. Furthermore, all of your other reviews have also been removed.' I have published well over 200 unbiased reviews. I certainly shall not be wasting any more time writing up reviews. It could well be that the only reviews Google wants are positive - as is Trip Advisor. As it happened the ovewhelming buk of my reviews were positive. Good businesses will suffer because of Google Maps policy of being unreliable.

As a photographer I like adding high quality images to my reviews. After posting them many of the images don't show, but the message "No User Photo Available Here" does. Why bother wasting time posting images to Google Maps if some bot is going to reject them for gawd knows what reason? If you are going to do this at least have your bot inform us if we have done something wrong.

I love the concept of having real people leaving genuine reviews for the benefits of many people. Businesses, services or products, details like opening hours/days, nearby carpark etc.

What do i do if my customers left a review and it doesnt show up. Im guessing its caught in your super smart ML algo?

I enjoy leaving reviews on Google, especially when it means that I can leave great reviews for those who deserve it.

Google frequently suppresses accurate negative reviews. I wish they didn't rely so heavily on machine learning.

Let me tell you how they ACTUALLY work:

Business owners create fake Google accounts, post a single five-star review for themselves, log out of the account and never go back. On occasion, they'll review two or three nearby places before or after they review themselves to make it look good.

Customers are tricked into thinking this is a great restaurant (as an example) when it's just a mediocre, lackluster buffet.

Of course the machine learning system does not work well. Every review of me, no matter if high or low rating and how long the text, is flagged as fake and not posted.

I have been experiencing the misuse of many new places including Dental Clinics, Beauty Parlour etc in our locality especially by educated class. I notiiced most of the reviews being given five stars using superlatives even after opening of a very few days and to my surprise note that most of the reviewers were only having one review in life time as if they were born to make this review. I have been helplessly watching this trend inspite of taging and now noticed not only the reviews but even the places are not existing.In short such control is required for misuse.

Wouldn't trust google map reviews. They tend to suppress your negative reviews despite accuracy but keep the good ones.

Can map reviews be ghosted like comments on YouTube can? Meaning the user thinks it's publicly viewable when in fact it's only viewable to themselves.

This is terrible actually. This means that when businesses treat others like crap with prejudice and/or racism. Then the people cannot warn others about this. If you're going to have this then we should also be able to access those reviews as well. Maybe like Twitter does as a hidden message. It's not fair to people who have legitimate concerns about business owners that don't respect their employees or their customers. For example, if a small business is known for their prejudice against Muslims. How are we to know that way we won't go there? This was the easiest way. Or is they support alm??? You think this has nothing to do with buying an item and leaving but we all don't have the same experiences. Please rethink this or have another option. Thanks for reading!!
