Outrage over Chinese laundry detergent commercial

Officials in Beijing are distancing the government from a commercial that's been widely condemned as racist.

The ad for a laundry detergent shows an African man's black color being washed off.

China's foreign ministry says the commercial has not affected relations with African governments.

The “Beijing resident” who speaks perfect English and makes note that they’ve never had racial problems in China is definitely working for state media. This was not a random person on the street that they grabbed. They told her exactly what to say. The image is always carefully-crafted.

Fact of the matter is, all of China laughed at the ad. It's just the reality of how Asians in general view people who have darker complexion than what they are used to seeing every day.

It might not be the most racist add. There are plenty of ads in the rest of asia which could sure give that one some stiff competition.
