What the 22nd amendment actually says about presidential term limits

The 22nd amendment does not contain the word 'consecutive' when referring to serving terms. Does this mean presidents can serve unlimited terms as long as they are not consecutive? And why did the US Constitution need to be changed to add wording on presidential term limits? Lets read the relevant portions of the document and find out together!

Now we need to put the same restrictions on the house and senate. Our government was not designed to be run by professional politicians.

The same term limit should apply to the house and senate for the same reason as to the president. We have a problem with career politicians staying in office for decades.

I asked the question in 5th grade that if a president ran for a term ... lost, ran again and won - could he run a second time? This was in the mid 50's ... my teacher and mother didn't know the answer and told me to write to our Congress person. I did and never did get an answer. Finally at almost 77 yrs old, I'm getting my answer.

We need terms for politicians at any level: president, governor, senator, representative…look at McConnell, pelosi, …

The problem is not term limits on the President. The problem is NO term limits on the House, Senate, and the Courts. If we are going to amend the Constitution then age limits for the Supreme Court, term limits for the lower courts and the Senate and the House.

0:40 It doesn't need the word consecutive. It's perfectly clear "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice"

That was so informative to me, a non-American. I am so glad that this is in place. Let’s see how this plays out over the next few years.

We need to put limits on the Senate and the House of Representatives. It is desperately needed

What the anti-federalists missed is that consolidation of power isn't necessarily centered on a person. A system itself can become a tyrant king.

I'm a true believer in term limits and age limits for the presidency, Congress, Senate and all federal courts and SCOTUS. It's the only way to keep checks and balances.

Term limits should be across the board in every position, elected or appointed, federal, and state levels.

Civics needs to be put back in schools. I was taught in Civics class, the president was limited to 2 terms.

I already knew all of this, but watched anyway because I enjoy it when people talk sense based on the actual text that we all can access.
