Not even Trump himself could stop his base and what he has created. if he came out and said "I'm an idiot, don't vote for me" they'd claim he's sick, got paid off, etc.

Ms Esper said that Trump did a good job by putting three conservative judges on the bench.I do not think they should be conservative or liberal judges. They should be honest judges who respect and apply the constitution

He said he wanted to continue to be there to make sure the military wasn’t misused. That’s why he didn’t speak out. If he had spoken out, he would’ve been fired.

Totally understand the reporter's question about speaking up sooner, but Esper made the right choice to stay quieter and not get fired for the next several months. It was more important that he be in place for those key months in which the fascists were plotting a coup.

I know it can look like an attempt to dodge accountability, and maybe it is, but I would still agree with him in rather having him in place doing the best he could to steer the ship away from disaster, than have him warning the people publicly as an act of moral fortitude.

Trump said in an interview in the 90s, and I quote,
“If i did run one day, for president… I bet the American people would be dumb enough to vote for me.”
It happened.
Now this.

He said "lowering taxes", he left out "on corporations and the rich".

It was good he stayed, because he was able to garner first hand information. If he had resigned Trump would had just put someone else. Nothing would have changed.

After this, how could Trump ever be allowed to run for office again! He’s a security risk unfit to hold a clearance!

The problem is that Trumpsters like Trump because of all his baggage. What the rest of us regard as Trumps flaws his supporters consider features.

Discretion is the greater part of valor. Esper was right, he would have been fired and replaced by Trump immediately if he had spoken out, which would have lead to some very dire consequences.

"Conservative Judges on the bench"
That's working out so swell for democracy. The whole GOP party isn't fit for office.

I agree with this guy.. someone with some sense had to be there to keep Trump from being able to execute an actual military coup

I really wish an interviewer would ask peoples like this that served in the Trump administration what their opinion of Pence is now. Seeing as how they know Trump is not fit to lead, and Pence still backs Trump despite him trying to have him killed by his deranged supporters, I'd love to hear people like Esper call out Pence's behavior as well.

The interviewer did a good job here. Asked salient questions and pushed back when Mr Esper seemed to be dodging questions.

For everyone one of these "Former Advisors", who claim they stayed, despite their stating of unfitness to lead, I'd love for them to tell what was the original ideas they "saved" us from. Like how bad was it? Because what we got, was still terrible.
