Kassi Valazza | “The Rapture”

Kassi, you continue to create pure magic for the world.

The weekend had been magic too. Kassi got to play a show in our town of Laramie at Zeh Duck, no less. She brought a great group of friends that wanted to drink in the sights. And she got to celebrate a birthday in the Rocky Mountains. So we did our best to make it a memorable one, and she gave us this amazing performance to mark the occasion.

If you think I’m jokin' about the birthday, look at bright pink bday ribbon pinned on sweater. Gifted by the man himself Riley Downing ( @rileydown ). Sweetest Royals fan in the nation.

It still amazes how Kassi can conjure up these beautiful songs. Like most people, I’m still in chills after hearing her album “Dear Dead Days.” If you’re new to her music, stop, go listen and come back to this post. But this new song “The Rapture” is getting me excited for her future work. We continue to hear and there’s no denying Kassi's emotional connection to her material. And when you’ve gotten to know her for the past year or two, you know undoubtedly, it’s authentic.

There’s also a shoutout in order I have to give to Kassi.

For it was after my trip to Montucky to shoot vids with her and our friend Riddy Arman, that I knew I wanted to drive around the country and shoot videos with musicians and my friends for the rest of my life. I think I was always scur’d to do it, but that trip to Montana really changed me. So thank you friend.

Like many of the musicians on this channel, it’s been a honor to document her music and life. I just appreciate all the trust they have with us. All I hope is that we can introduce her music and others to the next generation.

Kassi, if you didn't know - there's a huge following of your blessing here in the Appalachian mountains. Please bless us with your beautiful presence and voice soon. Even if I was the only person in the audience, I'd make sure you get the crowd you deserve. You're so loved, don't ever change.

If anything should be heard at the Opry, it’s this fantastic song writer.

Her voice just hits without warning - utterly crystal clear. What an incredible singer! And the cut-back simplicity of the guitar picking is the perfect accompaniment. Just spectacular.

Dang Kassi's voice is amazing. I've never heard anyone else that sounds like her and it's amazing.
This and Johnny Dear are stunningly beautiful with their slightly doleful undertones.. Love it.
It's so nice to hear a song that resonates on a soulful level.
She's like a mid-western, wholesome-sounding, classy Lana Del Rey or something.

Edit: Two years after this silly comment I happened to live somewhere she was gonna sing. I paid like $25 for a ticket, she and her bandmates were fantastic in person! You should absolutely buy a ticket and see her if you get the chance. Highly recommend.

Lovely, always a joy to see her performing. Simple yet impressive.
Chords and lyrics below folks, not 100% sure about the lyrics though, correct me if I may be wrong.

Capo on 3, Standard tuning

G6 320000

Verses G6 C / C G6 / G6 C / C G6
Chorus G6 Am G6 / G6 Am G6

[Verse 1]
Some awful rapture of noise held you captured and broke my stare
You said it came from there up there on the stairs
No more than a second that mystery backing your feet to climb
While I stayed behind I held worry on my mind

[Chorus]
You don't know how fire works, it burns too slow, you'll lose it
You don't know how fire works, it dies until you feed it

[Verse 2]
You dug through the floorboards for some kind of folklore you'd heard before
The newspaper was torn and the match burned bright
How I couldn't fathom this loose hanging phantom your fingers wore
So yellow in hue, it was nothing I knew

[Chorus]
You don't know how fire works, it burns too slow, you'll lose it
You don't know how fire works, it dies until you feed it

[Verse 3]
You laugh at my temper, your eyes like december so cold and blue
You were smiling, too, I was jealous of you
Still to this day you've been lied in your way with the pages you burn
While others read theirs first, see how bright you can shine

[Chorus]
You don't know how fire works, it burns too slow, you'll lose it
You don't know how fire works, it dies until you feed it

[Verse 4]
Comes some long evening when these embers go leaving me bitter and cold
We'll watch our bodies grow old, you'll hear me whisper "you were right"
You laugh at my sorrow, so empty and hollw, I was such a fool
That I knew better than you making up all those rules

[Chorus]
You don't know how fire works, it burns too slow, you'll lose it
You don't know how fire works, it dies until you feed it

Y'all should see her live. Exceptional, trippy, haunting, more. She's a headliner in any venue against any singer IMO

I think the greatest compliment I could give this woman is she sounds to me like a young Kitty Wells

I would go so far as to state that she has one of the best voices for classic style country and folk. This was amazing to listen to.

The song writing is like listening to a ghost story. This one has its hooks in me, I keep coming back to it again and again. What an amazing piece of artwork.

Mesmerizing voice. Haunting lyrics. Beautiful girl with beautiful hair...and a beautiful sadness. That is what we are..."beautifully sad".

Been a fan of Kassi's music for at least two years now. She is so underrated. Her voice is like sitting on a cliff in Ireland watching the sunset.

This track keeps pulling us back. That says something. Science says Kassi is directly proportional to the feels which probably equals 10.
