Genicular nerve block is a diagnostic knee injection performed under X-ray guidance. Patients with a positive response are offered either cooled or conventional radio frequency neurotomy/ ablation for a more sustained response. Genicular nerve block should be considered for patients with chronic knee pain secondary to osteoarthritis, patients with failed knee replacement, patients unfit for knee replacement or patients who want to avoid surgery.
