Low carb will probably be more effective for what you are trying to do. Also, you don't have to remove meat, but you have to really up the fruits and vegetables. Not a nutritionist/dietitian, just someone who reads a lot on the subject. Really proud that you are taking any steps towards better health. Part of the journey is trail and error. The key is to just keep trying.

I'm with everyone else here Jack... proud of you for not giving up.  I think lowering your carbs is a good idea.  Also, consider the quality of carbs you consume.  White flour, simple sugars, white rice and potatoes will spike your glucose like crazy.  Substitute them with whole grains, brown rice, quinoa, sweet potatoes and higher fiber foods.  The fiber will slow the absorption of sugars into your system and you'll avoid those spikes.  If the labels says "enriched flour" of any kind, stay away from it.  Omega 3's are your friend... fish, olive oil, flax seed, chia...work to lower bad cholesterol and raise the good cholesterol.  You're an inspiration.  Best of luck on your new journey. :)

Sorry, but this really doesn't prove anything.. What you really need in your diet is a ton of fiber and FRESH vegetables. I don't eat red meat often (maybe once a month) and my cholesterol levels are "optimal".  Low carb can be dangerous for men if they do not increase fiber because otherwise, things can get trapped in the colon, which can lead to problems there.  In addition, I would recommend daily activity.

I've never seen anyone do anything like this, so it is interesting to watch your journey thorough this... experiment... if you will. Thanks for tagging us along, Jack!

Good luck, Jack.
I'm also trying to get healthier, and having been out of shape for most of my life,  I know it can be incredibly hard. You manage one of my favorite YouTube channels and I check in every single day.
You can do it, I believe in you!

Yea I think you will see a big difference going on a low carb diet. It sucks giving up breads, rice, potatoes, ect. but it can be done. I picked up a wok at walmart for $5 and started doing stir fries.  I usually fry mini peppers or bell peppers with broccoli for my veggies. I add pre-cooked chicken pork or beef for the meat. I use a small amount of peanut oil to fry in and add a little sesame oil for a smoky flavor along with some sea salt and ground black pepper when finished. Preparing the meat ahead of time and kept in the fridge really helps out. It takes longer to chop and prepare the veggies, than it does to actually fry everything. There is a few things to know about caring for a wok though. You just can't wash it like everything else. It has to be treated like a cast iron pan. My cholesterol and triglycerides used to be through the roof. Not sure what they are at now, but I feel much better! Peace!

Incoming!  You are about to receive every diet advice in the book.  No meat, No carbs, No salt, Go vegan, Eat anything & excercise. Blah Blah Blah.  You're a smart guy, not everyone's body reacts the same, and I'm glad you are working toward better health.  I will so boldly be one of those that gives you advice, and that would just be not to go on any "diet" that you don't want to follow the rest of your life.  You can drastically reduce carbs if that's your choice without saying "no pasta" etc.  Perhaps your physician can refer you to a dietitian/nutritionist (although even those professionals have as many contradictory opinions as those who post YouTube comments lol).  Luv ya, Jack and hope the best for you.

So many people weighing in on what diet you should use and why. Everyone has their own opinion, but I've always been of the opinion that if you truly want to change your life for the better, then you need to closely consult someone with the knowledge and know how.  There are a lot of unproven fad diets.  A nutritionist or dietitian (whichever is the correct term, I'm not sure) is the best source to knowing which work and which are garbage because they study the information.

That said, I honestly do wish you the best in your battle of health.  You are one of my favorite people to watch on Youtube and I think I look forward to the live Sunday shows the most since they seem like we are all literally just hanging out together somewhere.  Wishing you the best, Jack :)

Hi. This is it!!! I quit everything that has white wheat in it and Im loosing weight and feeling great! White wheat is the key! Its the root of all evil. Its not exactly what it used to be in the old times. Make sure to read labels a bit too because they sneak the wheat into kinds of things even here, in Estonia. When I have felt like pancakes, ive made them few times using rice flour. They will be more cakey but definitely satisfy your need and....well. I am 100% sure your numbers will change now. Just make sure to cut the wheat all out. I also did not eat pasta or rice. If you go for whole wheat bread and think its any different from white bread, it isnt! I ate an occasional potato if I happened to find it in a soup or so. Try quinoa, its great. :) Bestest luck to you! And read about white wheat dangers online too!

Disappointing, I know. Try the drugs.

In three months from September to December, I was able to reduce my A1C from 9.7 to 6.0; Cholesterol from 250 to 172; LDL from 153 to 100; and triglycerides from 110 to 106 with drugs. I *_DON'T_* particularly care for using drugs, but if it works...

BTW, my BP has dropped from 140/96 in Sept to 106/71 in Feb.

*_Good Luck_*, Jack. I don't think that not eating red meat is the answer!

This is probably one of many unsolicited pieces of advice from someone about the diet, but i've been doing low carb since october of 2012 and have lost 231lbs to date. I was even bigger than you at 476 and probably prediabetic. I've completely turned my life around in doing this and have never felt more clear headed and confident in my life. I honestly can recommend it to anyone, even if you're not in need of losing weights or correcting cholesterol numbers. And it's completely your call, but I'd cut the beans and do true low carb if it was me. I've been doing keto specifically. If you're interested, give reddit.com/r/keto a look. There are a lot of people there like me with a ton of experience that are more than glad to help newcomers that want to make a positive change in their lives. Good luck in all your weight loss endeavors Jack!
