As someone who wants to get into air layering, I feel like thanks to you I got good grasp on that topic.
But I wonder about the things beginners do wrong, when first time air layering.
Like the little traps one could easily step into, only knowing what to generally do, but not knowing what to specifically avoid.
Would also love to hear you talking about some failed air layerings and conclusions from the past! Maybe going through the routine of care, deviations from it, when and why and an overview of how things unfolded. And of course some insight in the inspiring thinking processes of yours, as always ;)

As you said this is a massive timesaver, or at least a shortcut to getting some practice at more developed specimen. Therefore I would love to start air layering soon :D

Greetings from a fellow german beginner grower!

Thank you for showing your air layering successes. It encourages me to try again and not give up. Realizing that it might take a year means that I need to be very patient!

Thank you for showing so many inspiring possibilities with air layering. I have air layered an Australian native tree 2 months ago and am waiting to see if it was a success otherwise i will try again.

Peter, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. Can I ask your advice? I started an air-layering on a mature English Elm in early April this year. It’s been a very warm Spring and although the moss hasn’t dried and the top of the tree is still healthy there are only one or two small roots on the layering in early June. Do you think it will still root and how long would you leave the moss on before giving up on it taking root?

I think you should sell t shirts with your fame quotes. I want to do some air laying this year, it is a interesting process. I have done some laying on the ground level of bushes, by scratching the branch and burying in the ground. 😀👍🏾👍👍🏾👍👍🏾

I airlayered an apple tree last summer. I cut it off the tree in fall and replanted it in sphagnum moss. The temeratures are quite cold here in Montana, USA, so I placed it in a training pot in my basement (average temperature is about 50 degrees with dips into colder temperatures). Should I have just left it outside??? I didn't know if the cold would kill it over the winter. This upcoming spring, I plan to expand my air layering efforts to all of the trees in our yard. Thanks so much for this video.

Dear Peter,
In this video you are talking about a English Elm. What do you mean by that name? Is this Ulmus minor 'Atinia' or Ulmus procera??
As a tree officer in Wijdemeren I developed since 2004 a Elm collection that contains some 90 species, cultivars and hybrides. We have a few Ulmus procera, but no Ulmus minor 'Atinia'.
I would love to obtain some cuttings of U.m.'Atinia' to add to our Elm Arboretum.
