Libertarian MP David Limbrick has asked the Victorian government what they will do "to ensure that 6 News can continue operations" if a social media ban for under-16s goes into effect.

What point in arguing the specifics when its a sledgehammer to speech. There are no amendments that can save a fundamentally broken bill. It also speaks to the character of all involved in pushing such insidious nonsense.

Do they seriously believe they can prevent sub 16 year olds accessing the various SM outlets? I would suggest that any such measures will cause more trouble for adults than the kids. The kids will bypass these restrictions in a flash. There is no end to the naivety of our governments.

This is also a way of depoliticising teenagers. I was 13 when Whitlam was elected PM and in the months leading up to the election I wore my It's Time badge to school every day and had the sticker on my schoolbag. While the net is full of all sorts of weird people spruiking weird notions it is also the only place people can be exposed to other analyses of our political world besides the Murdoch dominated mainstream media. This legislation is sinister.
