Welcome to CRT Market Watch episode 6. A program completely dedicated to talking about the Cathode Ray Tube sales market. In today's episode I will be taking a closer look at premium CRT sales for June of 2020. I'll cover Sony PVM and Sony BVM monitors that where sold in North America on eBay and a new Auction site that has been loaded with CRTs. Retro Tech is the best place to discuss CRT Sales and Repairs.

90's consumer CRT TV's are fine displays, and most of them have plenty of service menu settings to dial them in close to perfect. Euro TV's take RGBs natively, and can usually be upgraded to accept NTSC by adding an oscillator. My Finlux had a reserved spot for the NTSC oscillator next to the PAL one, with an option for 3.58 xtal in the service menu. My PAL Finlux 32" needed a slight yoke rotation and tilt, but it had been serviced by someome before who probably didn't do a good job of it.

Just use a 17/20" Sony CRT computer monitor as your ;) For that clinically sharp *phat* scanline look

I bought one of the BVMs you skipped over on eBay- the 14G5U that was listed for parts at $250 OBO but the seller sent me an offer for $150 with free shipping, so I snagged it. They packaged it unbelievably well and it arrived safely. It definitely has some issues and needs a recap, but I'm gonna try my hand at restoring it.

This is a real microeconomics case study. The utility has almost no influence over the price. The simple fact is 50 people are buying and 20 are selling. Crazy things happen in these fringe scenarios. Know what these things are worth, don’t succumb to FOMO, and watch the market.

This is why I gave up trying to find a HD PVM/BVM. I ended up buying a PVM-A250 a few years ago. I Love the the thing. I use it with the OSSC

I'm overjoyed. Last week I managed to pick up a nearly brand new PVM-1354Q from a family in Toronto for ~$150 ($200 CAD). It was purchased back in the 2000's, but sat in their basement unused. Picture is gorgeous, and the case has few scratches or scuffs.

I will never buy a BVM or PVM unless I see one for around £100. If someone pays over a grand for one I gotta say, you have more money than sense.

People think they gonna buy and profit on it, they dont do any recap or anything. I give you all an advice, buy only recapped an 100% Working, when sellers realise they have to put so much work in it in order to sell it prices gonna drop.

I found a PVM-1954Q recently for $80 on Craigslist, but I had to drive 7 hours in total to pick up and bring home. It's a good PVM from 1995 with onscreen geometry adjustments from the service menu. If you're willing to make a bit of a drive, you can sometimes find decent deals on PVMs. I will not be spending money on the eBay auctions as they are way overpriced. The key is to find someone who isn't looking to make a profit. Since I went so far to get this PVM, I plan to keep it for the long haul.

How much do you charge for PVM Cap replacement?

Only the consumer has the power to fold the sellers. No need to pay too much. Only then the price will fall

I've been seeing some local deals off Craigslist lately over here in NYC Steve. Some are fixer uppers, but good enough to bring back to life and try to fix. Be worth it to help restore this units for sure. 8^)
