Cleaning lens elements In Ai-s Nikkor 85mm 1:1.4____it turn out to be okay

There was a lot dirt and dust on the lens element's In this old Ai-s Nikkor 85mm 1:1.4, and it was really difficult to unscrew the front lens group and the retaining ring that hold the front lens assembly into the housing.

I use SO MUCH Acetone when try to soften the very hard thread lock, but it was only possible when I use my very BIG compass / lens tool, and use 2 clamps and fasten them to a the compass on the table, then use very sticky gloves and A LOT of force and in that way make it possible to unscrew.

I use Lighter Fluid and "PEC-PAD" to clean the lens surface's and it was okay, but after the video I make it as clean as possible, because there was some small spots on some of the lens elements.

Thank you so much for these videos! I've successfully cleaned a few Series E lenses now, but when I took on the more expensive 85mm f/1.4 I managed to strip the head of one of the screws on the mount. Any idea what I should do next?! Thanks

Hello.
I am experiencing similar problems with loosening the front retaining ring of Nikon 85/1.8 mk1 purchased from Japan with lot of condensate and fungus.
I tried the lot of nail polish remover, acetone - ring doesn’t loosen.
I use a factory-made strong lens spanner wrench, so the problem is not with the tool.
I’m thinking of immersing front lens block in acetone with the front lens and retaining ring for several hours or days, or applying WD40 on thread.
Can you advise something?

P.S. I put a small amount of WD-40 with a syringe under the ring, waited 3 days and unscrewed it.

Hi Mike, would you also did the VDO for Mir 1B cleaning back lens?

Nice result at the end, but you had access to all the dirty surfaces you cleaned without taking the actual glass elements out of their metal holding rings. You should have just cleaned them in place, taking them out is just extra risk (of cracking or scratching an element) you didn't have to take.

I got a question and hope you can help me out...

My 85mm makes a weird clicking noise, whenever i set the aperture higher than 1.4 and open the blades fully with the lever.
As soon as i rotate the lens, it goes click when turned to the left, and click again when turned to the right. Just the entire lens, not the setting rings on it.
It sounds like something is hitting metal on metal.
Also happens when the lens is set onto the camera. When i use the depth of field preview button on my camera, the clicking won't appear.
With rotating, i mean when i switch the camera between portrait or landscape.
Is this normal? or should there be no clicking at all?
