No you are not the idiot. You're spot on afaics. I've now written about 30k lines of code attempting to use AI as my assistant. Maybe I'm just bad at it. Unless I'm doing something that's true boilerplate like setting up tests or some kind of super-bland straightforward REST thing, I spend more time checking and fixing what the AI turns out than the AI saved me in the first place. The scariest part is how good it is at churning out code that _looks_ right but has serious problems. (When you think about how AI works, this is exactly what you'd expect.) You really need to pay attention.
