Cherington is just like Huntington before him. If you listen to their Sunday radio show it sounds like they really know what they are doing but in reality they don’t have a clue.

Same franchise declared their shortstop the future and moved him to centerfield eight days later.

Thank you DK. I keep wondering if any move they make will matter, when they don't know how to. First basemen and right fielder. Always good DK

Will they spend on trash? Yes. Will they spend on players that OTHER teams want? No, unless those other teams are only offering minor league deals with an invitation to spring training.

2 things: 1) It is more like 25 mil, and thats before resigning Cutch, so its really 20 mil. 2) they have more needs than RF and 1B. Primarily, they need a lefty reliever, as the only one they currently have is Joey Wentz. They also need an infielder who can hit right handed pitching, as Hayes/IKF/Gonzales have not shown the ability to do so. So yea, they'll fill those 4 holes with 20 mil, which is in fact bargain shopping.

1. If your main point is that the criticism should be directed at Cherington for misusing the resources he has, vs Nutting for putting a stranglehold on this resources, I would guess it's a mix of both. They can easily change my mind by signing a quality RF/1B this offseason, but there is nothing in the past 5 years of the administrations existence that tells me that they will do anything different, and that means dumpster diving for RF/1B. Some reclamation project, some older 4A player, sign 3-4 on minor league contracts, hope something sticks - maybe I'll be suprised, but I doubt it.

Hey DK always appreciate your take on this team that I can’t help but love.. I was sad I didn’t get to meet you when we were in Pittsburgh but we got to meet your wife (very nice lady, you definitely married up) and barely got to look at the store. Anyways why don’t you think we’ll keep Chapman? He was really solid especially with Bednar regressing, is there another solid back end guy you see the team going for? I know we have the two primary needs of 1b and RF, but I’d say the bullpen was shaky at best. We all thought it’d be a strength but it was most definitely not, with the exception of Chapman. I know he wasn’t perfect but he was fairly consistent especially when you compare him to Bednar or the horror show that was holderman. Do you think Bednar and holderman will come back with a renewed confidence and ability? I hesitate to hope for much.

$100 M would be a good starting point. How much would it cost to get a real Right Fielder and 1B man?

No chance they will spend. If they wouldn't let rowdy get his bonus then there is no chance. What descent player would want to come here. They need to get rid of the Hayes contract.

Speaking as a lazy fan, I think Carlos Santana made more than double what Rowdy made last year, DK. Do you think the Pirates have given up on Suwinski and Bae? Signing an outfielder would seem to indicate that, if not doom them both to Indianapolis for a time in limbo. And then there's Endy. Signing a first baseman would diminish his playing time substantially.

J1Q: Are we in a situation where we are focusing on Power over OBP? I live and die by OBP but find our approach needs to focus on being aggressive and that tends to leave one-half of OBP in the rear-view window when you factor in walks. The Pirates have sat enough on 2-Strike counts. Your thoughts...

So who is going to be our catcher? Have they figured that out yet?

Nah...they are not spending. They hire coaches who will 'try' and fix the players they broke. Hysterically hypocritical. Loser franchise will continue to lose until the culture changes. And that comes from the top down.

So get ready to welcome back Rich Hill? Maybe bring Yoenis Cespedes back to the states?

I think you need to quit making these, DK. I don't think your blood pressure can take much more.
