Canada to ban single-use plastics: government source

The Trudeau government will ban single-use plastics in Canada as early as 2021, CBC News has learned from a government source. This is part of a larger strategy to tackle the plastic pollution problem that the government is expected to announce Monday.

Mexico is doing more to ban plastics today compared to Canada. Canada is considered green but really it’s not. Many states in Mexico has already banned plastic bags and straws. They are proceeding in elimination more these upcoming months.

Are we also going to ban single-use plastic garbage bags? What about Ziploc baggies? Glad freezer bags? These are TRULY SINGLE use. My plastic grocery bags do waaaay more duty than carry the groceries from the store to the car to the house. I look forward to seeing most of the single use products be eliminated - as long as they are truly 'single' use. Plastic is dangerous.

Well no matter your political views or even climate change views. You should support this because of the lakes and oceans and simply our fast filling up landfills. This is really a good thing. Makes room for innovation actually

This is a good start, but I think waste plastic is still a valuable resource. How many people know that waste plastic can be converted into diesel fuel? Those shipping containers full of plastics in Malaysia and the Philippines could have been turned into fuel instead of becoming this big, messy problem. Also the oceans could be harvested of their waste plastics in order to make fuel.

I like to use straws. Recently I went to a place that used paper straws...you know what? They worked just as well as the plastic ones! Crazy. So I guess my life won't be any worse off because of this.

Long ago the enviromentalists complained about paper bags and other paper products because "muh trees n shiet" so they introduced plastic, nowadays they want to ban plastic, ...so...are we going back to paper? lol

I’m reallly excited and hoping they ban single use plastics! Including plastic utensils, Starbucks cups, straws, plastic bags, replace plastic bags with reusable bags or paper bags for those who don’t want to keep reusable ones. BUT I’m the hospital and in medicine, single use plastics must be included. Like IV bags, and more important things.
